    Potrč, Stojan ...
200 Patients with carcinoma of the stomach underwent gastrectomy in the periodfrom January 1992 to July 1997. 117 were male, 83 were female and the average age was 64,6 years. There were 113 distal ... resections (53%), 75 total gastrectomies (37,5%), 5 proximal resections (2,5%) and 7 stomach stump resections (3,5%) in a complete group of pts. A curative RO resections was performed in 143 pts (71%) but in remaining of 57 pts (29%) only R1 or R2 palliative resection was possible. Out of 143 pts with RO resection 80 were distal resections (55.9%), 55 total resections (38.5%), 2 proximal resections (1.4%) and 6 gastric stump resections (4.2%). Considering pts with RO resection 85 had D2 lymphadenectomy and 58 D1 lymphadenectomy. Of all 200 pts 38 (19%) had complications (15minor, 23 major). Average hospital stay was 14.6 days. The mortality rate was 7% for distal resections and 6.6 % for total resections. The total mortality rate which included stump resections (3 deaths of 7 pts) was 8%. D2 compares favorably with D1 lymhadenectomy i terms of 5 year survival for UICC stage (63% vs 35%)(p0,05) and postoperative mortality (6,4 vs 6,8%).
