    An efficient compressing method for single look complex SAR (synthetic aperture radar) data composed of discrete wavelet transform, uniform quantization and recency rank based loss-less coding, is ... presented. Discrete wavelet transformation is implemented with two channel maximally decimated filter banks iterated in octave-band tree structure. The performance of compressing method depend on the choice of the filters. We have restricted to the separable FIR filter banks which are often used for compressing two-dimensional finite signals. For compressing a single look complex SAR data the best results gave us the short filters with good regularity. Different types of filter families are suitable for compressing the single look complex SAR data in cartesian and polar format. Biorthogonal 6/10 filtersgave us the best results when compressing the complex SAR data in cartesian format and Symlets filters (length 8) when compressing complex SAR data in polar format.
