  • Akutna bolečinska stanja v revmatologiji = Acute pain in rheumatology
Holc, Iztok ; Krajnc, Ivan, 1948- ; Pahor, Artur
At our Rheumatology Department, a 53-year-old male patient has for the past 11 years been undergoing treatment for uric arthritis accompanied by numerous relapses, urate tophi on several parts of the ... body and extreme pain during the relapses. The patient is receiving treatment with NSAR, colchicine during attacks, as well as allopurinol. In rheumatology, the pain experienced in acute exacerbation of uric arthritis is described among the most violent attacks of pain. Pain in a joint can be local or general. Articular pain caused by arthrosis must be distinguished from inflammatory pain. Periarticular and articular structures are innervated by various nerve fibers transmitting pain to the central nervous system. Inflammation increases pain and sustain it as well. Pain management is non-pharmacological or pharmacological. Frequently a visit to a so-called multidisciplinary center isrequired. Pain plays an important part in the patient`s quality of life, therefore it must be treated aggressively.
