  • Vpliv površinske plasti na utrujenostno rast razpoke
    Pehan, Stanislav
In this paper two approaches to the calculation of gear service life are compared. The first approach very often uses the average properties of the surface layer and the residual stresses are ... completely neglected. In addition, only the stress field caused by outer loading needs to be known. As a result we get the crack path and the crack velocity. The second approach requires a better knowledge of the stress field around the crack: the field caused by outer loads (which is easy to define with numerical methods) and the field that represents the residual stresses (which is harder to establish). It can be done by temperature loading. The real properties of the surface layer are considered. As a result we also get the crack path and the crack velocity. This paper shows the differences between the two appproaches. The comparison may help the designer find the optimum gear manufacturing technology, i.e. the longest service life and the least expenive technology.
