  • The application of virtual tools in mechanical engineering

    In production engineering, the application of virtual tools is particulary interesting and useful. By means of suitable computer support, a new product manufacturing can be simulated from the initial ... planning, design and the securing of necessary production sources through to control (Lawrence Associates Report, 1995; Arbour, 1994). By means of computer simulation of the manufacturing process, its feasibility can be assessed in terms of various goals. Only then, the decision is made whether the product will in fact be manufactured. An example in the article describes an attempt to upgrade a work station involving the process of fitting doors to Mercedes Benztrucks prduced by MPP Karoserije Maribor using the ERGOPlan programme package.
