  • VIRACO - virtual reality audio conference
    Divjak, Matjaž ; Korže, Danilo
The introduction of the real time streaming audio into the virtual reality based on VRML worlds is presented. The result of the work is the new possibility of the multi-user audio communication ... whilst observing the same virtual world by all participants of the "virtual reality audio conference". The solution of the problem is assured with the special server program, where all users are first automatically registered when they start to observe the defined virtual world. Inside the VRML world, for example inside the virtual classroom, runs the client program based on the Script Authoring Interface (SAI) utility. All cleint-server programs needed are coded in Java language using the Java Media Framework for the audio streaming support. The server accepts the audio streams from different users - observers of the virtual world and serves as agent between them. Except the audio streams also the momentarily locations of all users inside the virtual world are transferred to the server what enables us to introduce the spatial 3D sound. The virtual environment (for example the virtual delivery room) is enriched by 3D spatial sound, human avatars and later even with some more realistic sense of touch. Such virtual environments based on well prepared scenarios of happening will be highly useful for learning and training of medical doctors and stuff for some serious ans rare conditions. On the other hand the virtual reality audio conference is a new quality in the sensation of virtual reality in learning and practice.
