  • Numerical simulation of extension and shear deformation of textile materials
    Jevšnik, Simona ; Geršak, Jelka
The shell fabric as well as the fused panel is subjected to bias extension and shear deformation in the produced garment. The study of their stress/strain relationship when exposed to low loading is ... important from the application and design points of view. This paper presents a study of the extension and shear behaviour of shell fabrics and fused panels. The finite element method was used to calculate the numerical solutions of the samples during tensile and shear deformation. For this purpose a new computer model of a shell fabric and a fused panel was developed. The stress-strain curves of both the fabric and fused panels were simulated. The fabric is introduced as orthotropic shell defined with mechanical parameters but the fused panel is determined as two layer laminate also with mechanical properties. The material and geometrical non-linearity were taken into account. The warp and weft direction tensile and shear modulus of the shell fabric and fusible interlining were determined from extension and shear tests using a KES FB measuring system and a Poisson ration was obtained on the tension testing device. The obtained results from numerical analysis were compared with the experimental data and were in good agreement.
