  • Numerical calculation of fatigue life of bar connection at crane structures [Elektronski vir]
    Šraml, Matjaž ...
In optimization process of crane structures the high level of material exploitation is often requested, which results in lower costs and suitable safety of operating construction. At operational ... stage crane structures are exposed to the complex time depending loading cycles. Paper is focused particularly on a numerical fatigue assessment procedure of the bolted bar connection at crawler cranes. First, three-dimensional contact model was created to evaluate contact stresses and strains in connection joint, for three different design of bars. Properly defined strains due to high loading conditions are further important for fatigue analysis (strain-life method). With these calculations, the effect of geometric discontinuities (hole in bar head) has been taken into account. Furthermore, the fatigue analysis of dealing case was performed. The strain-life approach provides a rational approach to include the effects of local notch cyclic deformation and mean stress on fatigue life. However, final results consider the critical number ofapplied loading cycles (dynamic loading spectrum is applied to provide fatigue analysis), when failure should be expected to occur.
