  • Implementation of a 6 DOF haptic device with the VMRL scenes

    This paper investigates a possibility of general and simple connection between the existing VRML models and aDelta 6D haptic device. The proposed solution is based on the Cortona browser. It ... implements a Java applet which controls the haptic device's functions via a C library and communicates with the VRML model via Extemal Authoring Interface (EAI). The applet transforms between the VRML and Delta 6D coordinate systems and calculates a feedback force according to the spring model when a collision turns on. Running a simple VRML scene on a Xenon dual 2.2 GHz personal computer, the duration of the communication cycle between the haptic device and VRML was obtained as low as 10 ms.
