  • Radical innovation as a strange attractor

    Three industry case studies are used to investigate the processes of radical change and radical innovation and to formulate a model differentiating incremental innovation as a fixed point attractor, ... radical change as a limit cycle attractor and radical innovation as a strange (chaotic) attractor. This paper is primarily a discussion paper, arguing that as most modern business models target the management of incremental innovation, the instability and risk associated with radical innovation is artificially inflated. It concludes with a call for further research about alternative business models, such as a theory of the management of radical innovations.
