  • Seismic rehabilitation of traditional urban and rural stone-masonry houses
Tomaževič, Miha ; Lutman, Marjana ; Klemenc, Iztok
Structural interventions used in the case of seismic rehabilitation of traditional stone-masonry houses, such as the tying of the walls at floor levels, replacing of existing wooden floors with ... reinforced cement slabs, and strengthening the walls with cement-grouting, have been developed on the basis of extensive experimental and analytical research, carried uot in recent decades. On the basis of the observed behaviour of strengthened buildings, recently affected by an earthquake, the effectiveness of these measures has been verified. By testing the actual lateral resistance of existing and cement-grouted stone-masonry walls and subsequent analysis of seismic resistance of buildings, it has been found that the design seismic loads, required by EC 8 for new construction, may be reduced in the case of the redesign of existing buildings. The recommendations for the determination of characteristic values of material properties and partial safety factors also are proposed.
