    Journal Article

This article explores how early American cinema and US imperialism are inextricably bound together in a thorough exploration of cinematic representations of the Philippines in US film both during and immediately after US colonization of the islands. The article carefully considers the significance of the film and discursive records remaining from the 1898-1904 period in order to explore how filmic representations reproduced US imperialist ideologies and spread US imperialist fantasies as a commodity.
