Among the beneficiaries of the changes in the political and social climate of West Germany which set in at the end of the Cold War era are the émigrés of the Nazi regime and their literature. The persecution of émigrés, their experiences in exile, and their publications are finally receiving the recognition they deserve. The libraries and archives of West Germany played an important role in bringing the émigrés to the attention of the public. Extensive collections of émigré literature have been assembled for the students of the subject. Systematic documentation projects, now in progress, will provide access to the unpublished émigré material located in German and foreign archives.
