Yenisey yazıtları, mezar şiiri geleneğinin özgün örneklerini temsil etmesi sebebiyle Türk halkları için olduğu kadar dünya kültür mirası için de mühimdir. Bu yazıtların hemen hepsinde görülen esiz kelimesi hakkında bugüne dek yapılan çalışmalarda birkaç farklı görüş ileri sürülmüş, ancak kelimenin asıl anlamı üzerinde bir görüş birliğine varılamamıştır. Bu çalışmada ise söz konusu kelimenin kökeni hakkında yeni bir açıklama yapılmaya çalışılmış ve Güney Sibirya bölgesine özgü bir ünlem olarak kabul gören esiz’in esas anlamının yine bu bölgede, ilgili yazıtları bırakan Yenisey Kırgızlarının torunları ve kültürel mirasçıları olan Hakasların dilinde tespit edilebileceği savunulmuştur. Bu amaçla literatür taraması yoluyla ulaşılan bilgiler, Hakas Cumhuriyeti'nde yürütülen alan araştırmasından elde edilen verilerle de desteklenmiştir. The Yenisei inscriptions are important for the world’s cultural heritage as well as for the Turkic peoples, because they represent unique examples of the epitaph tradition. Several different views have been put forward in the studies about the word esiz, which is seen in almost all of the Yenisei inscriptions. However, there is no consensus on the true meaning of this word. In this study, a new explanation has been given for the origin of the word. It has been argued that the main meaning of the word esiz, which is accepted as an exclamation peculiar to the South Siberia region, can be determined in the language of Khakas, because they are direct descendants and cultural inheritors of the Yenisei Kyrgyz who left these inscriptions. For this purpose, the information obtained through the literature review has also been supported by the data of field study conducted in the Republic of Khakassia.
