This article aims to trace a career path of the director and actor Vsévolod Meyerhold, focusing on his connection with the "Théâtre de la Foire," masks and the grotesque. For this, a cut was defined regarding the terms mask and grotesque in Meyerhold's poetics, and two montages were analyzed in different periods: "Balagántchik," by Aleksandr Blok, and The Bedbug, by Vladímir Maiakóvski. In these two works, directed by Meyerhold, it is possible to understand how the artist worked, at different times, in a fruitful dialogue with the popular forms of the performing arts.
