Bosnia and Herzegovina differ with rich genetic pool within which the autochthonous fruit cultivars have special place, especially apple fruit. The activities related to preservation of plant genetic resource in our country were intensified during last couple of years. The first step in preservation and utilization of autochthonous and hosted apple cultivars was their inventarisation within the area of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This research includes identification of autochthonous apple genotypes in different areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina and which were preserved in on-farm system. The research includes the areas of north-west Bosnia, central Bosnia and north Herzegovina, and it was carried out in the period 2005-2009. The aim of this study is field registration and decline protection as bigger number of autochthonous apple cultivars as possible, so it could be used in further breeding programmes. Pomological characterization was carried out at some locations, which included analysis of morphological fruit characteristics and analysis of chemical content of fruit of some identified genotypes.
