Logistics activities contribute to a large part of land consumption. For various reasons, logistics is being noticeably pushed out of urban areas. The selection of the location is a decisive starting point for savings in mileage and thus CO2 savings, though. Therefore, an approach is presented here which qualifies land parcels for logistics use on regional planning level. Economic location factors, proximity-related location factors, accessibility-related location factors and the compatibility of potential logistics facilities to adjacent land uses are thereby investigated for each land parcel. This evaluation is done for five different types of logistics locations, taking into account the respective relevant location factors. The results for the regional distribution centres show that there is need for action and further research.
