On 11 February 1955 there was held the first ever live television broadcast - the match Praha - Leksand between Czech and Swedish ice-hockey players. The first Spartakiad was held - public performances of gymnasts demonstrating unity and commitment of the people to the communist regime. Production of the popular Skoda 440, popularly called Spartak, started.
