Gas discharge tube as an overvoltage protection elementRozman, Robert, 1979-Gas discharge tube (GDT) is hermetically closed cell with two electrodes. Cell is filled with proper gas, mostly with noble gases. GDT is an isolator in a fundamental state, but in the case of ... overvoltage it becomes conductible. This characteristic can be useful in overvoltage protection systems. In the paper the properties of GDT are described in comparison with other overvoltage protection elements. Working of GDT is presented in detail with possible construction solutions at GDT production. Then the required properties of GDT are shown, which depend on the tipe of overvoltage. The paper also presents the basic methods of measurements and determination of GDT properties with some measurement results. From the presented examples we will see that the prediction of results is very difficult and we need a lot of experiments to reach the required propertis of GDT.Source: Proceedings (Str. 133-137)Type of material - conference contributionPublish date - 2009Language - englishCOBISS.SI-ID - 33614597
