  • Light scattering investigation of aqueous solutions of poly(methacrylic acid) and poly(sodium methacrylate)
    Kogej, Ksenija ...
Light scattering was used to study the properties of poly(methacrylic acid), PMA, and its sodium salt, NaPMA, in aqueous solutions. From the scattering data it was cocluded that PMA is ... inter-molecularlyossociated in 0.1 M HCl. The data were treated according to the Open Associaton Model of Elias, which yielded the weight-average molar mass and the apparen association constant of the polymer. Furthermore, the second virial coefficient and dimensions of the polymer were evaluated. The changes in thermodynamic functions point to a hydrophobically driven association process of PMA chains.
