  • Knowledge-driven entrepreneurship - the case of Slovenia
    Rihtarič, Mira ; Maurič, Ervin
This paper deals with - also in Slovenia - extensively debated human capital - the knowledge and skills that workers acquire through education. Recent research on economic growth has emphasized that ... human capital is at least as important as physical capital in explaining international differences in standard of living. Economic growth is described by a dynamic process and in dynamics an active individual the entrepreneur - is absolutly crucial. To act entrepreneurially means to identify situations overlooked until now. In the market context entrepreneurship is evoked by the presence of unexploited opportunities for pure profit. To cope with the rapid changes occurring on the globale scale and to prosper in the third millennium, youth must be adaptable, enterprising and innovative. To develop these skills in youth to prepare them for the future, schools must take on new and different approaches, teaching new concepts. We should create a more entrepreneurial society in general and a more entrepreneurial school in particular. The enterprising approach necessitates educational flexibility from both teachers and students; enterprise education courses are by nature interdisciplinary and they require close ties with the industries and organizations that employ graduates. Some obstacles to the creation of an entrepreneurial education system in Slovenia are: - traditional pedagogy still rules, - highly specialised teaching faculty is prevalent, the lack of close ties with industries, huge classes and a minimal staff, existing values and attitudes to entrepreneurship, etc.
