    The knowledge of a national language can be social mechanism; therefore, the state requirements concerning the level of this knowledge, particularly as a second/foreign lanigage, must be consistent ... and transparent. The role of the Centre fot Slovene as a Second/Foreign language at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Ljubljana and its Examinations Centre is to propose to the state- based on sociolinguistic considerations and analyzses - the formation of the criteria for acquireing and testing language knowledge as well as their social implementation, according to the needs of foreigners and society, development of the field, and the general language policy of the state.
