  • Sphere encapsulated PCM heat storage for solar assisted ventilation [Elektronski vir]
Medved, Sašo ; Arkar, Ciril ; Tori, Primož
In the article we are presenting the design of latent heat storage with small polyethylene spheres with encapsulated PCM, which forms porous media inside the duct of the building ventilation system. ... In this study we assumed that ambient air is first heated in solar roof, than passes trough latent heat storage and at the end enters into living spaces as preheated ventilation air. Latent heat storage prevents overheating and prolongs ventilation system operation until evening or even night. Numerical approach to transient heat transfer and melting process calculation has been taken. Results of numerical simulations at different boundary conditions that occur in the reality, such as: real-time variation of solar radiation and solar roof efficiency, different air flow rates, various latent heat storage size and different PCM melting temperatures are also presented. Simulation results could be used for PCM heat storage optimisation in solar system for preheated ventilation air applications.
