  • The influence of cross section size of the diffuser channel on the hydraulic and cavitation characteristics of multistage radial pumps
    Gantar, Marjan, 1951-
The problems of multistage radial pumps of low specific speed with the diffuser are tested. By simplified theoretical relations the shift of [varphi] - [psi] characteristic is determined for the ... changed diffuser cross section. The pressure and velocity conditions in the diffuser throat have been analysed for the region beyond the optimal flows. By a simple method the maximum flow has been calculated which fot the given inlet pressure could be reached by the pump due to the cavitation in the diffuser. Theoretical results have been compared to the experimental results at threestage model pump and show a good agreement. Prototype developed from this model serves as a safety injection pump in the nuclear power station. Instruction is given how to eliminate the cavitation in the diffuser of the pump already manufactured at the minimum change of [varphi] - [psi] characteristic.
