  • Determination of the fatigue strength of spring steels on Charpy V-notched specimens = Določevanje trajne nihajne trdnosti vzmetnega jekla na standardnih Charpyjevih preizkušancih z V-zarezo

    Standardized and technological dynamic testing of leaf springs is a complex, time-consuming, and expensive task. The alternative is a relatively fast and simple determination of Woehler's (S-N) ... curves with a resonant pulsator. The test was performed on simple standard Charpy V-notched samples. For an appropriate comparison with the results of dynamic tests performed on real leaf springs, it was necessary to consider the notch effect since steel springs are made of high-quality steel with a smooth shot-peened surface. In the present contribution, a determination of the fatigue strength with a resonant pulsator of 51CrV4Mo spring steel will be presented. The notch effect and stress distribution at the notch tip is simulated with the finite-element method. The influence of the microstructure and surface quality will also be discussed.
