  • Power transformer protection based on current and voltage measurement
Štumberger, Gorazd ; Grčar, Bojan ; Dolinar, Drago, 1953-
The power transformer protection algorithm presented in the paper is based on the measurement of the primary and secondary power transformer voltages and currents. Each current is decomposed into two ... orthogonal components. The first one is collinear with the voltage and proportional to the active power. The second one is orthogonal to the voltage. The orthogonal decomposition is realized in the time domain using the inner product. The differnces between the decomposed primary and secondary line currents are calculated and the norms of these differences are used in the protection algorithm. The presented protection algorithm does not need harmonic stabilization. It works well during transients and special operation conditions like inrush and overexcitation. The harmonic contents of the transformer currents and voltages are not important.
