  • Crisis management
Prezelj, Iztok ; Ristevska, Teodora Tea
Our institutions, companies and societies can often be affected by severe crises of various kinds. This entry defines crisis management as the organisation, arrangements, and actions aimed at ... preventing or mitigating the negative effects of a crisis and thus protecting organisations. Crisis management refers to organised activities to manage and respond to any type of crisis (a) at a specific level, (b) within a specific dimension or domain, and (c) at times before, during, or after the crisis (phases of crisis management). This entry defines and describes the levels, dimensions, and phases of crisis management and discusses several key challenges in this area, such as the problem of coherence, the problem of coordination, the importance of pre-crisis planning and resilience, the role of communication, the need to learn from mistakes, and the need for more comparative work.
