    Characteristic of the food culture of Maribor residents in the 1920's and 1930's were above all dishes prepared from vegetables and flour as well soups. The composition of meals was adequate, but ... often monotonous and modest, dependet upon the seasons and upon the food grown in gardens or bought in markets, and also upon the days of the week. The food culture did not differ much from the preceding period of prevailing Austrian cuisine during the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Major changes occured after 1960, when some dishes of other Yugoslav etnic groups were incorporated in everyday meals
