In this paper, I present the mobile commons and migrant commoning as the constituent power of a Europe-to-come. The theoretical basis for the proposed conceptualization comes through a well-known ...dispute around the concept of the 'nomos' that involves Carl Schmitt, on the one hand, and Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari, on the other. I revisit this argument, and suggest that it expresses a difference between two ways of constituting Europe. The Schmittean line is organized around current policies of enclosures of borders of EUrope. The nomadic line today takes shape in a migrant (auto)nomos that resists enclosures, institutes mobile commons and possibly transgresses the concept of citizenship to the institution of commonship. I draw on contemporary theories of the commons and commoning to develop arguments for a nomadic approach to European belonging. Besides contributing to the debate on mobile commons, the article intervenes in the discussion on the future constitution of Europe in the context of migration.
The article joins the recent discussion, led by theorists of the commons, on the meaning of “commoning”. It proposes to recognize as the main feature of the practice of commoning the capacity to ...reproduce the autonomy of plebeian life-worlds that could possibly lead to a post-capitalist future. The identification of commoning as the activity of marginal subjectivities is presented here with the example of gleaning. This traditional activity of the poor is re-examined in the article as an ambiguous practice that escapes the binaries of activity and passivity, positivity and negativity, production and reproduction. Gleaning, with its reproductive capacities, serves as a model for commoning, understood as the new philosophy of praxis, which is much needed in the times of ecological catastrophe and the broken connection between labour and care. The history of struggles around gleaning and the commons, and the figures of the poor female harvester (glaneuse) and urban ragpicker (chiffonier) are recalled in the article in order to recognize the much devaluated potential of commoning to interrupt the history of blind productivism and, together with reclaiming the commons, to also reclaim our future.
Artykuł stanowi próbę osadzenia najważniejszych prac Petera Linebaugha na tle współczesnych teorii tego, co wspólne (the common), w szczególności w zestawieniu z biopolitycznym paradygmatem Antonia ...Negriego i Michaela Hardta. Dorobek amerykańskiego historyka na gruncie polskim pozostaje mało znany, mimo że jego prace z zakresu historii społecznej, dziejów ruchu robotniczego, kolonialnego Atlantyku czy globalnych grodzeń (enclosures) mogą być inspirujące nie tylko dla historyków, ale i dla teorii społecznej. Linebaugh przyglądając się zaniedbywanym przez historyków losom grup zdominowanych w okresie formowania się kapitalizmu, wyprowadza nowe ujęcia pojęć takich jak klasa robotnicza, walka klasowa, commoning czy dobra wspólne (the commons) oraz kreśli ambitną, transnowoczesną genezę globalnego kapitalizmu. Artykuł wskazuje na użyteczność jego perspektywy badawczej w dobie kapitalizmu biopolitycznego.
Artykuł stanowi propozycję filozofii podmiotu politycznego, która uwzględniałaby osiągnięcia dwóch (zwykle niewchodzących ze sobą w dialog) tradycji badawczych. Z jednej strony historii oddolnej, z ...drugiej – nowego materializmu, zainteresowanego kształtowaniem się wspólnot wielogatunkowych. W kolejnych rozdziałach eseju autorzy pokazują, dlaczego koncepcja motłochu (jako podmiotu wielogatunkowego) może okazać się bardzo dobrym narzędziem, użytecznym zarazem do studiowania historii klas podporządkowanych, jak i do budowania nowej polityki w warunkach kryzysu klimatycznego. Proponowany przez nich kierunek polega na oparciu sprawczości ludzkich i nie-ludzkich zdominowanych na praktykach wielogatunkowego uwspólniania.
The article was written as an intervention piece in the midst of the massive escape of war refugees to Poland during the first four weeks of the war in Ukraine (24 February-24 March 2022). It aims to ...map and discuss the condition of grassroots hospitality (and inhospitality) in Poland between Autumn 2021 and Spring 2022. It was a time of shifting context in terms of policies: from the state of exception, migrant push-backs, and walling the border with Belarus, to the policy of solidarity with war refugees, legitimized humanitarianism and open border with Ukraine. In the course of half a year, the frames of bottom-up hospitality on Eastern borders of Poland changed entirely and abruptly. When a couple of thousands of migrants from the Middle East and beyond were camping in the border zone between Belarus and Poland, unable to claim asylum in the EU, practices of solidarity from the bottom up were barely tolerated by Polish state, if not criminalized and condemned. In these realities, structures of support remained an informal, fugitive, and underground network. But with the Russian attack on Ukraine on 24th February 2022, Poland opened its border for the unprecedented arrival of over two million people (during first month of the war) and bottom-up solidarity became a massive response of Polish society, which started to organize shelters, transportation, food and medici-nes. The same politicians and media which were fighting hospitality to migrants — in terms of ‘crimes of solidarity’ — on the border with Belarus, this time welcomed it with enthusiasm and support. The article proposes to view the nascent rise of grassroots hospitality with Ukrainian migrants in terms of ‘mobile commoning’: precarious, makeshift and autonomous practices of solidarity with people on the move. Mobile commoning is considered here as potential basis for a different migration policy in the EU. At the same time, the Polish case is analyzed as an instructive study of the limits of political universalism which are constructed at and by the borders.
The article aims to challenge the narrative on modernity, which was presented by Carl Schmitt in his book The Nomos of the Earth. The publication of Polish translation of this classic book is a good ...opportunity to re-think the conditions of possibility of Schmitt’s philosophical and geopolitical discourse. The German jurist described the formation of Eurocentric and stato-centric global order (nomos) in a way, that delegitimized the practices of resistance as unlawful (anomos). The author proposes – following Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari – to re-interpret the terms nomos and anomos in order to present anomos in positive way, as a potentiality to form an alternative political order. In conclusion the author tries to convince that the order of anomos is based upon the development of the commons and its contemporary manifestations express themselves in the practices of social movements, which disturb linear vision of history.

Następnie wskazują, że w historii Leppera, a szerzej: partii Samoobrona, można dostrzec fazę plebsizmu. Był to wczesny etap rozwoju ruchu, przypadający na lata dziewięćdziesiąte, kiedy to działaczami politycznymi byli ludzie pokrzywdzeni i skupieni na organizowaniu oddolnego oporu społecznego oraz tworzeniu alternatywnych form podmiotowości. Przejście w kierunku populizmu dokonało się po 2001 roku, gdy Lepper i kierownictwo Samoobrony oderwali się od społecznego podłoża, stając się zawodowymi politykami, wypowiadającymi się w imieniu ludu. W kolejnej części artykułu, zestawiając Polskę z Boliwią, autorzy poszukują globalnego momentu populistycznego na peryferiach kapitalizmu. Zaskakująco to właśnie te peryferie – Europa Środkowa i Ameryka Łacińska – okazały się swego rodzaju laboratoriami politycznymi jako obszary, które stworzyły populistyczną odpowiedź na wszechogarniającą politykę neoliberalną.
