Malin Pereira's collection of eight interviews with leading contemporary African American poets offers an in-depth look at the cultural and aesthetic perspectives of the post-Black Arts Movement ...generation. This volume includes unpublished interviews Pereira conducted with Wanda Coleman, Yusef Komunyakaa, Thylias Moss, Harryette Mullen, Cornelius Eady, and Elizabeth Alexander, as well as conversations with Rita Dove and Cyrus Cassells previously in print. Largely published since 1980, each of these poets has at least four books. Their influence on new generations of poets has been wide-reaching. The work of this group, says Pereira, is a departure from the previous generation's proscriptive manifestos in favor of more inclusive voices, perspectives, and techniques. Although these poets reject a rigid adherence to a specific black aesthetic, their work just as effectively probes racism, stereotyping, and racial politics. Unlike Amiri Baraka's claim in "Home" that he becomes blacker and blacker, positioning race as a defining essence, these poets imagine a plurality of ideas about the relationship between blackness and black poetry. They question the idea of an established literary canon defining black literature. For these poets, Pereira says, the idea of "home" is found both in black poetry circles and in the wider transnational community of literature. A Sarah Mills Hodge Foundation Publication.
Women who operate small-scale farms and sell to small markets in Indiana may encounter certain obstacles and constraints due to self-employment in the traditionally male-dominated field of ...agriculture. Researchers have recognized the role of sustainable agriculture ideology in attracting women to these niche agricultural markets. Despite increasing opportunities for women in sustainable agriculture, research suggests that traditional gender roles are often maintained, manifesting itself through several obstacles (Pilgeram & Amos, 2015). Female agricultural entrepreneurs encounter obstacles including work-family balance, geographic barriers, access to physical resources, access to financial resources, access to places of information. Previous research indicates that female entrepreneurs have less access to human, social, and financial capital to support their business ventures (Powell & Eddleston, 2013). However, this study explored the feminine perspective and management styles which may serve as beneficial resources. The purpose of this study was to explore and describe existing obstacles encountered by female entrepreneurs in niche agricultural markets and their methods of building resilience in their business. Quantitative data was collected through an online survey of 62 agricultural entrepreneurs across the state of Indiana. Participants were asked questions pertaining to their business structure, resources, constraints, processes, achievements, and demographics. Several responses to openended questions were also collected and analyzed through open, axial coding. Study results include the diversity of the population, value of human capital resources, prioritization of quality products, significance of internal constraints, discrepancies in division of labor and women’s obstacles to access to social networks. A greater understanding of the obstacles encountered by women agricultural entrepreneurs can also provide valuable insight to Land-Grant University Extension, policymakers, and stakeholders in the Indiana agriculture industry.
Interprofessional education occurs when students from different disciplines come together to gain knowledge of each other's roles, philosophies, and abilities.
This qualitative study assessed nursing ...and divinity student responses/perceptions of an interprofessional simulation. Three cohorts of students (nursing, n = 17; divinity, n = 5) engaged in a three-part simulation using a standardized patient and focused on management of postpartum complications. Debriefing sessions were recorded for qualitative analysis.
Two key categories emerged: holistic patient care and interprofessional awareness.
Student responses conveyed meaning-making experiences with new appreciation of interprofessional and intraprofessional roles. Students expressed improved ability to provide competent holistic care.
•Students demonstrated and reflected on their holistic care through IPE simulation.•Students moved beyond tasks/checklists to provide relational and interprofessional care.•Experiential learning increased interprofessional role awareness and application.
Abstract
Background
Interest in patient health experience as part of a benefit–risk assessment for new drug approvals is increasing. Patient-centeredness, a key metric in the 2010 Affordable Care ...Act, is also a growing area of focus in healthcare. LEF, a new antibiotic in development for treating adults with CABP, was noninferior to MOX based on clinical response endpoints in LEAP 1 and 2. HRQoL was prospectively incorporated and evaluated in both studies via SF-12, a well-known survey that measures general health status in 8 domains (physical function, role limitations due to physical problems, bodily pain, general health, vitality, social function, role limitations due to emotional problems, and mental health).
Methods
An exploratory analysis evaluated HRQoL in patients who received LEF or MOX in LEAP 1 (IV-PO treatment) and LEAP 2 (PO-only treatment). SF-12 was measured at baseline (BL) and test-of-cure (TOC; 5–10 days after last study drug dose). SF-12 outcomes assessed included the 8 domains, physical component summary (PCS), and mental component summary (MCS) scores. SF-12 scores were normalized to the 2009 US population reference mean (SD) of 50 (10). A 3-point change on any scale represents a clinically meaningful difference.
Results
Analysis included 1,215 patients (LEF n = 607; MOX n = 608). At BL, all mean SF-12 scores in both treatment groups were well below the US reference mean, indicating a low HRQoL level, consistent with the acute illness of the study population (figure). Clinically meaningful and significant improvements from BL to TOC were observed in all domain, PCS, and MCS scores in both groups. Mean scores were close to the reference mean, indicating an average HRQoL level. No significant differences in mean score improvements from BL to TOC were seen for LEF vs. MOX. SF-12 score improvements at TOC across predefined subgroups (age, sex, number of comorbidities, study, and PORT risk class) were comparable between treatment groups.
Conclusion
Our data indicate that adults with CABP experienced HRQoL improvements with LEF that were comparable with MOX, and treatment with either agent resulted in return to normal HRQoL. When combined with overall study results, these data suggest LEF as a potential alternative to MOX for treatment of adults with CABP.

AIM To determine the frequency of bleeding source detection in patients with obscure gastrointestinal bleeding(OGIB) who underwent double balloon enteroscopy(DBE) after pre-procedure imaging ...multiphase computed tomography enterography(MPCTE), video capsule endoscopy(VCE), or both and assess the impact of imaging on DBE diagnostic yield.METHODS Retrospective cohort study using a prospectively maintained database of all adult patients presenting with OGIB who underwent DBE from September 1st, 2002 to June 30th, 2013 at a single tertiary center.RESULTS Four hundred and ninety five patients(52% females; median age 68 years) underwent DBE for OGIB. AVCE and/or MPCTE performed within 1 year prior to DBE(in 441 patients) increased the diagnostic yield of DBE(67.1% with preceding imaging vs 59.5% without). Using DBE as the gold standard, VCE and MPCTE had a diagnostic yield of 72.7% and 32.5% respectively. There were no increased odds of finding a bleeding site at DBE compared to VCE(OR = 1.3, P = 0.150). There were increased odds of finding a bleeding site at DBE compared to MPCTE(OR = 5.9, P < 0.001). In inpatients with overt OGIB, diagnostic yield of DBE was not affected by preceding imaging.CONCLUSION DBE is a safe and well-tolerated procedure for the diagnosis and treatment of OGIB, with a diagnostic yield that may be increased after obtaining a preceding VCE or MPCTE. However, inpatients with active ongoing bleeding may benefit from proceeding directly to antegrade DBE.
