Teacher professional identity, understood as the ways in which teachers perceive themselves as teachers, their professional roles and practices, has received enough scholarly attention in education. ...However, translator trainer identity is a relatively understudied area in translation studies. Acknowledging this research gap, the paper explores the factors involved in constructing Iranian early career translator trainers’ professional identity using Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory. Data on the experiences of five Iranian translator trainers in their first five years of teaching were gathered through narratives and semi-structured interviews. Using MAXQDA, a qualitative software program, the data were subjected to thematic analysis to identify patterns and themes. Findings revealed that various factors, such as students’ and department expectations, multiple professional identities, socioeconomic issues, educational policies, and the socio-cultural context, negatively or positively (re)shape translator trainers’ identity, affecting their professional development and performance. The paper concludes by arguing that training programs should provide prospective trainers with practical experiences and individual and group reflection to prepare them for the complexities of university teaching and help them develop a positive and effective professional identity.

Ever since the sociological turn in Translation Studies, readership has become a major consideration for translation researchers. An array of studies has focused on the reception of translated texts ...by professional (i.e. critics) and ordinary readers. In line with this view of readership, the current study adopts a quantitative approach to investigate the expectations of ordinary Iranian readers as to the features of a favourably received translation of foreign fiction into Persian. The authors validated the self-constructed Fiction Translation Expectancy Norms Scale and used it to elicit the opinions of a sample of 385 adult readers in Iran. Confirmatory factor analysis through structural equation modelling was employed to establish the construct validity of the results and empirically support a conceptual reclassification of the expectancy norms identified in an earlier study. The participants unanimously agreed that for a Persian translation of foreign fiction to be favourably received, it should be faithful to the author's tone and writing style. While most of the participants preferred a foreignising approach for the translation of culture-bound elements in the source text (ST), immersion in the translated text was found to be the most important dimension of foreign fiction translation for our sample of Iranian readers. These findings raise some doubts about the applicability of Venuti's model of foreignisation and domestication strategies to the literary translation scene in Iran.

L’identité professionnelle des enseignants, qui concerne les perceptions des enseignants eux-mêmes comme des enseignants, ainsi que leur rôles et pratiques professionnelles, a reçu assez d’attention dans le domaine de l’éducation. À l’inverse, l’identité des enseignants de traduction est un domaine relativement peu étudié dans la traductologie. Reconnaissant cette lacune dans la recherche, cet article explore les facteurs impliqués dans la construction de l’identité professionnelle des enseignants des traducteurs iraniens en début de carrière en utilisant la théorie des systèmes écologiques de Bronfen-brenner. Nous avons recueilli des données sur les expériences de cinq formateurs de traducteurs ira-niens au cours de leurs cinq premières années d’enseignement par le biais de récits et d’entretiens semi-structurés. À l’aide de maxqda, un logiciel qualitatif, les données ont été soumises à une analyse thématique afin d’identifier des modèles et des thèmes. Les résultats ont révélé que divers facteurs, tels que les attentes des étudiants et des départements, les identités professionnelles multiples, les ques-tions socio-économiques, les politiques éducatives et le contexte socioculturel, (re)façonnent négati-vement ou positivement l’identité des enseignants de traducteurs, ce qui affecte leur développement professionnel et leur performance. L’article conclut en affirmant que les programmes de formation devraient offrir aux futurs enseignants des expériences pratiques et une réflexion individuelle et col-lective pour les préparer aux complexités de l’enseignement universitaire et les aider à développer une identité professionnelle positive et efficace
La identidad profesional del docente, que denota las formas como los docentes se definen como tales, sus roles y prácticas profesionales, ha recibido bastante atención en el campo de la educación, pero la identidad del docente de traducción es un área relativamente poco explorada en el campo de la traductología. Reconociendo este vacío en la investigación, este artículo explora los factores involucrados en la construcción de la identidad profesional de docentes de traducción iraníes al inicio de su carrera, usando la teoría ecológica de sistemas de Bronfenbrenner. Para este fin, se recopilaron las experiencias de cinco docentes de traducción iraníes en sus primeros cinco años de docencia mediante narrativas y entrevistas semiestructuradas. Los datos se sometieron a un análisis temático para identificar patrones y temas usando el programa de análisis cualitativo MAXQDA. Los resultados arrojaron que diversos factores, como las expectativas de los estudiantes y la facultad, las múltiples identidades profesionales, aspectos socioeconómicos, políticas educativas y el contexto sociocultural pueden modificar, de manera positiva o negativa, la identidad de los docentes de traducción, y con ello tendrán un impacto en el desarrollo y el desempeño profesionales. El artículo concluye afirmando que los programas de formación deben ofrecer a los futuros docentes experiencias prácticas y reflexión individual y grupal que los preparen para las complejidades de la docencia universitaria y les ayuden a desarrollar una identidad profesional positiva y efectiva.
English and Persian translator training have been offered by many Iranian universities as an undergraduate program nation-wide. However, the program failed to keep up with the dynamics of the market ...demands, findings of Translation Studies research, and varied competences of students in the past two decades. This study investigated the Iranian English translator trainees’ perspectives on the former curriculum that was used for over twenty years. The other aim was to understand whether their needs and wants correspond to either of the old and the recently revised curriculum in 2018. Based on focus group interviews and literature review, a questionnaire was designed and validated, and the survey responses of over five hundred English and translator trainees (351 females & 152 males) from twelve universities in Iran were statistically analyzed. The findings revealed that the courses related to translation practice were ranked as the most important component of the curriculum by the trainees, highlighting that trainees favor practice-oriented translation courses the most.
In 2009 United Arab Emirates (UAE) has engaged in an ambitious nuclear power program with the construction of four 1400 MWe pressurized water reactor units at the Barakah site. Fourteen years later, ...three units are in commercial operation, and the fourth one is in the final steps of commissioning. The four units will produce up to 5600 megawatts of electricity, supplying approximately 25% of the UAE’s electricity requirements.
To ensure in such a short period of time the building of the nuclear capabilities and support to the program, Khalifa University has been, since 2010, a key contributor to education and training activities as well as the development of R&D capabilities in the field of nuclear technology.
This paper provides an overview of Khalifa University’s activities implemented within the Nuclear Engineering Department, the Gulf Nuclear Energy Infrastructure Institute and the Emirates Nuclear Technology Center (ENTC). This joint Center, which embarks the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation and the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation, is a hub that addresses the research requirements of the nuclear stakeholders for the delivery of safe and efficient nuclear energy as well as the deployment of advanced nuclear technologies in the UAE. The paper briefly describes the current research projects implemented at the ENTC and gives reference related recent publications.
The purpose of this research was to examine the relevance of emotioncy in Persian dubbing preference. Emotioncy deals with sense-induced emotions which can change individuals' interpretation. ...Approximately two hundred Iranian native speakers of Persian were asked to participate in the study and complete two instruments after viewing five pairs of dubbed segments into Persian. After the originally-designed instruments, emotioncy and dubbing lexical preference scales, had been confirmed for their construct validity using Rasch analyses, structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed to examine the relationship between emotioncy and dubbing lexical preference on the part of the participants who viewed dubbed segments. The analyses revealed that the viewers in this study found a dubbed foreign audiovisual text which contains higher emotioncy lexical items more preferable. This quantitative study recommends supplementary qualitative studies as well as the replication of this design in other language combinations and other modalities of audiovisual translation to complement the findings of this research. In our globalizing world, audiovisual products are understandably considered tools that advertise their original language and culture. Most societies do not stand any interference from the outside, ...especially if it considerably opposes the socio-cultural norms. Translation is a practice of cross-cultural communication which most often complies with the socio-cultural guidelines and norms of the recipient society. However, translated products might face resistance as they can be regarded threatening and hostile by the ruling gatekeepers. Given the dramatic disparities between most languages and cultures, translators are not the only decision-makers and other agents have pivotal roles in the process of adapting the translated product to the dominant conventions and socio-cultural norms. This paper aims at shedding some light on the role which agents play in the process of dubbing, both for public access national television and for private home distribution. The study explores the effects of preliminary and operational norms, and cultural appropriation conducted at both textual and visual levels through a method including interview data and textual analysis. The results show that foreign movies dubbed into Persian in the religious context of the contemporary Iran are strictly controlled both before the process of dubbing and during and after the process of dubbing due to a number of socio-cultural, political, and ideological considerations
Today, an increasing number of people are playing video games, hence the continued growth of the game industry's annual revenue, surpassing $150 billion in 2019, exceeds those of music and film ...industries combined. Considering the huge international market, accumulating and analysing information about gamers' opinions, attitudes and experiences is of necessity for the game localisation market and could supplement and enrich the limited existing research findings. To address this gap, this article presents the results of a survey of Iranian console and computer gamers' reception. Using quantitative data from over 750 gamers, the study examines the Iranian gamers' profile, gaming habits, preferences, and perception of the present situation of video game localisation in Iran. The results reveal that the entertainment of playing video games appears to be entirely male-oriented and mostly in their teens and early to mid-20s. The most telling results suggest that Iranian gamers prefer a localisation approach in which the translation maintains the otherness of the original, and that on average, they are dissatisfied with the present state of game localisation into Persian.
