ABSTRACT Driven by the growing demand for good quality food, agriculture is changing the way of cultivation to attend consumer’s expectations. In addition to the nutritional value, the production ...system has been an important factor in the consumer’s intention to purchase products. In this scenario, this work aimed to evaluate the effects of different nutrient sources on production characteristics and nutritional quality of 'Veneranda' lettuce. The experiment was conducted in randomized block design, with seven treatments (control, bokashi, organic compost, mineral fertilizer, mineral fertilizer + organic compost, foliar biofertilizer and soil biofertilizer), and five replications. In commercial vegetative stage, lettuce was harvested and evaluated for physical, physicochemical, bioactive compounds and mineral composition. Lettuce produced with mineral and organomineral fertilizers showed the highest yield of physical characteristics, which is related to the highest nitrogen content in their leaves. The use of organomineral fertilization, organic and mineral compost and biofertilizer via leaf application presented a positive effect on lettuce cultivation, with better nutritional quality and productivity.
RESUMO Impulsionada pela crescente demanda por alimentos de boa qualidade, a agricultura está mudando a forma de cultivo para atender às expectativas dos consumidores. Além do valor nutritivo, o sistema de produção tem sido um fator importante na intenção de compra dos consumidores. Diante desse cenário, este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar os efeitos de diferentes fontes de nutrientes nas características de produção e qualidade nutricional da alface Veneranda. O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento em blocos casualizados, com sete tratamentos (controle, bokashi, composto orgânico, fertilizante mineral, fertilizante mineral + composto orgânico, biofertilizante via foliar e biofertilizante via solo) e cinco repetições. No estádio vegetativo comercial, a alface foi colhida e avaliada quanto a aspectos físicos, físico-químicos, compostos bioativos e composição mineral. As alfaces produzidas com fertilizantes minerais e organomineral apresentaram o maior rendimento das características físicas, o que está relacionado ao maior teor de nitrogênio em suas folhas. A utilização de adubação organomineral, composto orgânico e mineral e biofertilizante via foliar apresentou efeito positivo no cultivo da alface, com melhor qualidade nutricional e produtividade.
Lettuce is one of the leading vegetables in Brazil. However, studies concerning its fertilization for the Northeastern region of the country are still scarce. This work was carried out to evaluate ...the effects of mineral Nitrogen supply and organic fertilization on the production and nitrate accumulation in lettuce, cultivar Elba, in the semi-arid zone of Paraíba, Brazil. A randomized block design, with four replications, was used to test five doses of cattle manure (30; 60; 90; 120, and 150 t ha-1), five doses of N supplied as urea (30; 60; 90; 120, and 150 kg ha-1), and a control without fertilization. Along with mineral N, the other nutrients were also supplied using mineral sources. No additional nutrients were supplied where organic fertilization was used. Lettuce yield was significantly higher when organic fertilization was used, compared to the mineral nutrient supply. Taking into account most of the fertilization doses recommended for growing lettuce in the Brazilian Northeastern States, N mineral fertilization in sandy soils with low organic matter contents can be fully replaced by organic fertilization with cattle manure. Plant total (PTY) and commercial yield (PCY) as affected by the mineral N supply fitted into a quadratic model, in which the doses 94.5 and 95.7 kg ha-1 corresponded to respectively the highest PTY (381.9 g plant-1) and PCY (321.6 g plant-1). Where organic fertilization was used, PTY and PCY fitted into a linear model. Therefore, the highest PTY (523.9 g plant-1) and PCY (449.48 g plant-1) were observed at the highest manure doses. Nitrate content on roots, stems, and leaves increased linearly with Nitrogen and manure application. In roots, the nitrate content (mg kg-1 of fresh matter) reached 93.96 (N mineral (Nm)) and 65.09 (organic fertilization (OF)); in stems, 183.45 (Nm) and 98.22 (OF); and in leaves, 121.98 (Nm) and 75.62 (OF). The maximum nitrate content observed in leaves was far below the risk level for human health.
A alface é uma das hortaliças mais populares no Brasil. Porém, estudos referentes à sua adubação na região Nordeste são escassos. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a produção e o acúmulo de nitrato em alface, cultivar Elba, em função do fornecimento de nitrogênio a partir de uma fonte mineral (uréia) e da adubação orgânica. O delineamento experimental foi de blocos ao acaso, com quatro repetições e onze tratamentos: cinco doses de esterco bovino (30; 60; 90; 120 e 150 t ha-1), cinco doses de nitrogênio (30; 60; 90; 120 e 150 kg ha-1) e uma testemunha sem adubação. Nos tratamentos com fornecimento mineral do nitrogênio, os demais nutrientes também foram fornecidos através de fontes minerais. Nos tratamentos em que se utilizou esterco, não houve adubação adicional. A adubação orgânica resultou em produtividade significativamente mais alta do que o fornecimento de N mineral. Considerando a recomendação de adubação para o cultivo de alface no Nordeste, a adubação mineral com N, em solo arenoso com baixo teor de matéria orgânica, poderia ser integralmente substituída pela adubação com esterco bovino. Para o fornecimento de N mineral, as produtividades total (PT) e comercial (PC) se ajustaram a um modelo quadrático. As doses 94,5 e 95,7 kg ha-1 corresponderam respectivamente aos valores mais altos de PT (381,9 g planta-1) e PC (321,6 g planta-1). Para a adubação orgânica, a resposta foi linear. Portanto, os maiores valores de PT (523,9 g planta-1) e PC (449,48 g plant-1) foram observados quando as doses mais altas de esterco foram utilizadas. O teor de nitrado nas raízes, caule e folhas aumentou linearmente com o fornecimento de N mineral e com a adubação orgânica. Nas raízes, o teor de nitrato (mg kg-1 de peso fresco) alcançou 93,96 (N mineral (Nm)) e 65,09 (adubação orgânica (Org)); no caule, 183,45 (Nm) e 98,22 (Org) e, em folhas, 121,98 (Mn) e 75,62 (Org) mg kg-1 de peso fresco. Os teores mais altos de nitrato observados nas folhas ficaram muito abaixo do limite de risco para saúde humana.
A produção da alface em hidroponia apresenta crescente expansão no Brasil, mas ainda ocorrem problemas de qualidade e risco de acúmulo de nitrato. O objetivo desse trabalho foi avaliar a produção da ...alface (cv. Elba) e acúmulo de nitrato em hidroponia em função de níveis crescentes de N na solução nutritiva. Plantas de alface foram cultivadas em estufa telada da UFPB em Areia (PB), em solução nutritiva que continha níveis crescentes de N (11, 13, 15, 17, 19 e 21 mmol L-1) por 25 dias. O delineamento utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado com quatro repetições. Foram avaliadas a produção total (PTT), produção comercial (PCM) e os teores de nitrato na matéria fresca da raiz, caule e folhas da alface. Não foram verificados efeitos significativos do incremento dos níveis de N na solução sobre a PTT e PCM, sendo obtidos valores médios de 357,3 e 352,5 g/planta, respectivamente. A elevação dos níveis de N em solução resultou em incrementos nos teores de nitrato em todas as partes da alface, obtendo-se na dose máxima teores de 659, 623 e 615 mg kg-1 de matéria fresca, para raiz, caule e folhas, respectivamente. Os máximos teores foliares de nitrato obtidos se encontraram abaixo do limite de risco para saúde humana.
Lettuce production in hydroponic system presents growing expansion in Brazil, but still there are problems of quality and risk of nitrate accumulation. This work was carried out to evaluate the lettuce production and nitrate accumulation in hydroponic system depending on the increasing levels of nitrogen in the nutrient solution. The experiment was conducted in greenhouse of the Universidade Federal da Paraíba, Brazil. The lettuce plants were grown in nutrient solution containing increasing levels of N (11, 13, 15, 17, 19 and 21 mmol L-1) during a 25-day period. An entirely randomized design with four replications was used. Plant total yield (PTT), plant commercial yield (PCM) and nitrate contents in the fresh matter of roots, stems and leaves of the lettuce were evaluated. There were no significant effects of increasing levels of N in nutrient solution on PTT and PCM, average values of 357.3 and 352.5 g/plant being observed, respectively. The increased levels of N in nutrient solution increased linearly nitrate content on all lettuce parts. The nitrate content reached 659, 623 and 615 mg/kg in the fresh matter of roots, stems and leaves, respectively, at the highest N level. Nevertheless, the maximum nitrate content observed in leaves was far below the risk level for human health.
