This research is aimed at examining the relationship between religion-science compatibility belief (RSCB) and evidence-based policy (EBP) belief and implementation in Indonesia, a country with the ...biggest Muslim population in the world. A dataset containing responses to a questionnaire completed by 499 government officials in Indonesia was collected for the partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). This study finds a relationship between RSCB and EBP belief and implementation. In addition, EBP belief also affected the implementation of EBP. The effect that RSCB has on EBP implementation was partially mediated by EBP belief. Studying how these beliefs relate to the attitude of policy makers toward science in a sociocultural context is important, considering that the focus of previous research is on different contexts pertaining to levels of education, industrialization, wealth, and democratization. This is important to encourage a more comprehensive understanding of the public about science globally. This study responds to the need for the literature to examine factors influencing EBP beliefs and implementation at the individual level in non-health contexts and developing countries.
Religious community relations in Indonesia require much attention as religious identity is frequently used to gain political power. One of the issues that is frequently politicised is the ...establishment of places of worship. The interrelationships of various groups that unite their power to become a force in legitimising the rejection of the establishment of places of worship must be investigated further. This study employed the Discourse Network Analysis technique to describe the discourse in the news reporting on establishing a church in Palembang. Twenty-five news stories from thirteen Palembang news portals were investigated, analysed using DNA and visualised using Visone. The findings show that various groups are involved, including church-building committees, community organisations, religious organisations, cultural organisations, political parties, and government institutions. The common argument is that the construction of houses of worship must be halted because it does not follow procedures. Political parties are central to this network. This implies that the relevant stakeholders could not keep the conflict out of politics. Meanwhile, the absence of parties who should have been present to maintain tolerance is an important entry point to ensure this does not happen again.
The purpose of this study is to illustrate how sub-disctrict government manage performance during a time of crisis, specifically the COVID-19 pandemic. When the pandemic struck, the government, which ...had been criticized for its excessive concentration on routine and administrative affairs, was at a loss for how to respond. COVID-19 requires the government to perform double duty, since it must continue to deliver ordinary public services while also working harder to contain the spread of COVID-19 at all levels. Thus, performance management is critical for assuring organizational performance and managing the performance of its personnel in the face of increasing work stress and work-related weariness. This study employed a qualitative method and a case study approach in the North Indralaya sub-disctrict government. The study's findings indicate that, aside from implementing work-from-home policies and increasing the use of information and communication technologies in public services, the sub-disctrict government has made few modifications to performance management. As a practical consequence, adaptive and evidence-based performance management must be implemented to enable a more rapid response to the dynamics of society as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the qualitative nature of the current study, a future study may examine the same issue using quantitative research, assessing the influence of current performance management on employee satisfaction, performance, and motivation.
The increasing attention to counter-terrorism practices through counter-terrorism and de-radicalisation policies has not been matched by in-depth and comprehensive studies on terrorism and ...radicalisation.As a result, there is a misconception of both, leading to discriminatory counter-terrorism and de-radicalisation policies, which allow certain groups and the state to commit violence and take freedom from groups stigmatised as radical. This study seeks to examine terrorism and radicalism by exploring the interpretation of the government as an institution, which has the authority to interpret terrorism and radicalism, resulting in de-radicalization and counter-terrorism policies. A dataset consisted of news items about government activities on terrorism and radicalisation from three ministries/non-ministerial institutions wasused for corpus linguistics (CL) and critical discourse analysis (CDA) assisted by AntConc application. We found that the three agencies developed interpretations of radicalisitonas part of their main duties and functions. Radicalisation has become a very flexible concept, adapting to bureaucratic spaces, not to be solved but to obtain budget spaces. Finally, the government responded to the entry of radicalism as a public issue by fragmenting the whole concept of radicalisation and splitting it into various agencies, where it is suitable to be resolved, rather than unifying it comprehensively inthe National Counter-Terrorism Agency's mission.
While social media has been extensively adopted by local governments, not all of its benefits have been achieved. One reason is that local government-owned social media is less appealing. This ...research argues that to increase public involvement in social media, the government needs to understand public behavior on social media by exploring public preferences on the content and media produced. This research applies a Stakeholder Engagement Index (SEI) to study public behavior on social media. The results of the study demonstrate that although content containing information about government activities has been produced, it has a low engagement level. Moreover, people prefer content with photos and videos, which apparently dominate local government posts and tweets. This research academically confirms that SEI is an alternative method for understanding public behavior on social media and practically presents choices of content categories preferred by the public.
This study aims to determine the performance accountability of the Regional Development Planning Agency (BAPPEDA) of Muara Enim Regency in 2017, including supporting factors and inhibiting factors. ...Accountability for the performance of regional apparatus is needed to measure the level of success and or failure of regional apparatus in achieving common goals and targets according to the performance targets set in the district RPJMD. This research was conducted with a qualitative approach and using descriptive analysis. The data collection technique used interview, observation, and documentation methods. The results showed that the performance accountability of BAPPEDA Muara Enim Regency in 2017 was very good, which was shown by the existence of excellent performance planning, performance measurement, performance reporting, internal evaluation, and performance achievements. The supporting factors for the performance of BAPPEDA in Muara Enim Regency are the existence of a strong team work, the development of achievement motivation, consistent monitoring and supervision of leaders and conducive organizational conditions that support the development of employee creativity and innovation. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factor felt by BAPPEDA employees was the absence of a special performance allowance for high workloads. This can lead to counter-productive and demotivating employees. It is recommended that in the future, consider the existence of a special performance allowance for the employees of BAPPEDA Muara Enim Regency and make BAPPEDA as a role model for performance development for other Regional Apparatus Organizations in Muara Enim Regency.
