The literature on the use of medicinal plants in wound healing was comprehensively searched to obtain and assess the data. The data were procured via clinical studies that utilized medicinal plants ...and their compounds in vitro and in vivo for wound healing. This review collected data from electronic databases, including Google Scholar, PubMed, Science Direct, Web of Science, SciFinder, Thesis, and Scopus, using the search terms "natural products", "wound healing", and "natural compounds", along with the keywords "plants", "extracts", and "phytochemicals". Results from the last decade reveal a total of 62 families and 109 genera of medicinal plants, and their compounds have been studied experimentally both in vivo and in vitro and clinically found to effectively promote healing. This activity is related to the presence of secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, tannins, terpenoids, and phenolic compounds, which act at different stages through different mechanisms to exert anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant effects, confirming that the use of medicinal plants could be an adequate alternative to current conventional practices for treating wounds.
Abstract
Depression, ranging from mild to severe, is the most frequently found psychological symptom among individuals with cancer. Depression in cancer patients has been known to mitigate emotional ...distress, quality of life, adherence to medical treatment, and overall health outcomes. Specifically, depression has been associated with impaired immune response and with poorer survival in patients with cancer. Various studies have found that psychotherapeutic interventions are effective in reducing symptoms of depression, which in turn could affect disease progression and mortality. This paper provides updated information on psychotherapeutic interventions geared towards cancer patients suffering from depressive disorders, and its impact on disease progression. PubMed, Cochrane Library database, PsycINFO and PsycARTICLES databases were searched from January 1980 through August 2013 using key words: psychotherapy, treatment, oncology, cancer, psycho-oncology, psychosocial issues, psychosocial stress, depression, mood disorder, and psychoneuroimmunology.

Social anxiety is a form of anxiety characterized by continuous fear of one or more social or performance situations. Although multiple treatment modalities (cognitive behavioral therapy, selective ...serotonin reuptake inhibitors/selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors, benzodiazepines) exist for social anxiety, they are effective for only 60% to 70% of patients. Thus, researchers have looked for other candidates for social anxiety treatment. Our review focuses on the peptide oxytocin as a potential therapeutic option for individuals with social anxiety. Animal research both in nonprimates and primates supports oxytocin's role in facilitation of prosocial behaviors and its anxiolytic effects. Human studies indicate significant associations between social anxiety and oxytocin receptor gene alleles, as well as social anxiety and oxytocin plasma levels. In addition, intranasal administration of oxytocin in humans has favorable effects on social anxiety symptomology. Other disorders, including autism, schizophrenia, and anorexia, have components of social anxiety in their pathophysiology. The therapeutic role of oxytocin for social dysfunction in these disorders is discussed.

Fetal programming describes the process by which environmental stimuli impact fetal development to influence disease development later in life. Our analysis summarizes evidence for the role of fetal programming in eating disorder etiology through review of studies demonstrating specific obstetric complications and later eating risk of anorexia or bulimia. Using Pubmed, we found thirteen studies investigating obstetric factors and eating disorder risk published between 1999 and 2016. We then discuss modifiable maternal risk factors, including nutrition and stress, that influence anorexia or bulimia risk of their offspring. Translation of these findings applies to preventative strategies by health organizations and physicians to provide optimal health for mothers and their children to prevent development of medical and psychiatric illnesses.
El fenómeno de Estigma presenta importantes barreras de acceso y calidad en la atención sanitaria. En los centros de APS, los proveedores de salud han percibido actitudes estigmatizadoras hacia los ...usuarios de salud mental, afectando su recuperación integral.Objetivo: Caracterizar el fenómeno del estigma hacia las personas con problemas de salud mental y/o consumo de sustancias psicoactivas, desde la perspectiva de usuarios internos y externos en centros de APS, del subsistema público de Chile.Métodos: Estudio descriptivo cualitativo, de muestra multicéntrica en 3 Centros de Salud Familiar (CESFAM), Las técnicas de recolección utilizadas fueron: entrevistas individuales semiestructurada (12) y grupos focales (6), aplicadas a usuarios y funcionarios de los CESFAM, con técnica de análisis de contenido. Se pretende responder a dos perspectivas del fenómeno de estudio: 1) En funcionarios clínicos vs funcionarios administrativos. Y 2) En personas con problemas de salud mental y consumo de sustancias Vs personas con solo problemas de salud mental.Resultados: El fenómeno del estigma es percibido igualitariamente en los profesionales clínicos y en los funcionarios administrativos. Por otra parte, los profesionales y usuarios reconocen presenciar actitudes estigmatizadoras hacia estos usuarios, presentando mayor estigmatización en las personas con trastornos mentales graves y en consumo problemático de sustancias.Conclusiones: El estigma es un fenómeno complejo presente en la APS. Los funcionarios clínicos y administrativos son una fuente importante de estigmatización, como también de desestigmatización. Los usuarios con problemas de salud mental grave y consumo de sustancias se sienten más estigmatizados en comparación con otros usuarios. Se evidencia la necesidad de implementar medidas antiestigma para contrarrestar el fenómeno.
Con hidrogeles sintetizados por medio de la técnica de polimerización en suspensión inversa (PSI), compuestos por acrilamida y acrilato de potasio entrecruzados con N, N’ metilen-bis-acrilamida y que ...presentan diferentes comportamientos desde el punto de vista de capacidad y velocidad de hinchamiento, módulo elástico y propiedades de liberación, se estudia la modificación de las propiedades hidráulicas de un suelo tipo franco arcilloso realizando curvas de retención de humedad, empleando ollas de presión de plato cerámico, y se desarrollan montajes para evaluar la modificación en la retención de los mismos, ante condiciones de dosificación prolongada e instantánea de agua de irrigación. Adicionalmente, se realizan cultivos de acacia y rábano en fase vivero en suelos acondicionados con diferentes hidrogeles, en el primer cultivo se evalúa el retraso en la marchitez de la especie y en el segundo la diferencia en crecimiento; simultáneamente para los cultivos, se hace el seguimiento del contenido de humedad in situ del suelo con respecto al tiempo. Se logra un método para la medición del módulo elástico y las propiedades de liberación y se establece un modelo para predecir el comportamiento de los hidrogeles en el suelo con el conocimiento de sus propiedades básicas en el estado libre. Finalmente, los resultados muestran la bondad del uso de hidrogeles en estas aplicaciones: hay mayor facilidad de liberación y retención de agua aprovechable por el suelo, retraso notable del marchitamiento en condiciones hostiles, y es mayor el crecimiento de las especies, entre otros beneficios, además se establecen pautas para definir las características del hidrogel más adecuado dependiendo de la aplicación deseada y se realiza una proyección hacia la disminución del consumo de agua para el mantenimiento de un cultivo.

Hydrogels synthesised by inverse suspension polymerisation (ISP) technique consisting of acrylamide and potassium acrylate interlinked with N, N’ methylene-bis-acrylamide and presenting different ...behavior in terms of rooting ability and speed, elastic module and release properties were studied. Markedly clayey soil properties were modified by drawing up moisture-retention curves using ceramic plate pressure waves and developing montages for evaluating modifications made to their retention, regarding prolonged and instantaneous irrigation-water dosage conditions. Acacia and radish crops were grown in nursery phase in soil conditioned with different hydrogels.
Delayed specie withering was simultaneously evaluated in the first crop and difference in growth in the second one. Follow-up of in situ soil moisture content was also evaluated over a fixed period of time. A method was achieved for measuring elastic module and release properties and model was established for predicting hydrogel behavior in soil having known basic properties in free state. The results revealed the usefulness of hydrogels in such applications: greater facility in usable water release and retention by soil, notable delay in withering in hostile conditions and greater growth of species. Guidelines were also established for defining the characteristics of hydrogel more adequately, depending on the desired application and a projection was made concerning reducing water consumption for maintaining a particular crop.
Acute rejection has been identified as the main cause of renal graft dysfunction during the first year after transplantation; it is associated with chronic structural and functional damage, which ...causes loss of graft and decrease in patient survival.
We performed a retrospective and descriptive research consisting in a review of the final reports of biopsies performed due to renal graft dysfunction during the postransplant period. Patients included were transplanted at the Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán (INCMNSZ) from January 2007 to December 2011.
A total number of 223 patients underwent renal transplantation during the period considered for this study purpose, 222 biopsies were performed due to renal graft dysfunction in 118 patients (52.9%). 74.5% of patients developed graft dysfunction in the first year after transplantation. The main histopathological findings reported were immunologic events in both living donor (LDRTR) and deceased donor renal transplant recipients (DDRTR), borderline changes were the most common diagnosis. The median time to detect immune events as cause of dysfunction was shorter for DDRTR and they tend to occur in the first 4 months after transplantation.
We observed an incidence of 11.8% for acute rejection in the first year after transplantation for LDRTR and 17.4% for DDRTR. Further studies are needed to determine the causes of immunological events and their implications in the evolution of renal graft and patient's survival.
