Attendance to the training was documented for each training session. To identify potential predictors a multiple linear regression model was fitted to the data. Analyzed predictors included age, sex, body mass index (BMI), physical function, exercise self‐efficacy, and physical activity history. Different domains of user acceptance (e.g. safety aspects, infrastructure) and exercise self‐efficacy were assessed by a questionnaire and the exercise self‐efficacy scale (ESES), respectively.ResultsMean exercise adherence was 67.2% (median: 74.4%). The regression model (R2 = 0.225, p = 0.033) revealed that the 6‐minute walk test (6‐MWT) at baseline significantly predicted exercise adherence (β: 0.074, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.006–0.142, p = 0.033). Different user domains were rated at least as good by 83.9%–96.9% of participants, reflecting high acceptance. No statistically significant change was found for exercise self‐efficacy over 6 months (mean change: 0.47 ± 3.08 points, p = 0.156).ConclusionRetirement home residents attended more than two thirds of offered training sessions and physical function at baseline was the key factor for predicting adherence. User acceptance of the training devices was highly rated. These findings indicate good potential for implementation of the exercise programme.

Purpose: Mobility is a crucial factor for independence and quality of life in old age. Nevertheless, many old people in retirement homes do not meet the physical activity recommendations. The aim of ...the Bestform-F--Best Function of Range of Motion feasibility study (bestform-F) was to evaluate the feasibility of implementing a machine-based multimodal exercise training program in older residents in retirement homes. Materials and Methods: The participants (n = 77) were recruited from two retirement homes and took part in a six-month multimodal exercise training program (2x/week, 45 minutes) on pneumatic strength training machines, a balance platform and bicycle ergometers. Feasibility criteria were recruitment number greater than or equal to 35 participants within six months, dropout rate < 40% of participants within six months of exercise, and training adherence greater than or equal to 50% of participants taking part in at least 50% of offered training sessions. Additionally, physical performance, fear of falling, cognitive function, and quality of life were assessed at baseline and after six months. Results: For the bestform-F study, 77 (85.6 + or - 6.6 years; 78% women) out of 215 eligible residents from two senior residences were recruited. The dropout rate over six months was 10% (8/77 participants). The training adherence rate for the finishing participants was 77% (53/69 participants). In addition to the achieved feasibility criteria, significant improvements were recorded in the Chair Stand Test, Six-Minute Walk Test, and fear of falling after six months. Conclusion: All feasibility criteria have been fulfilled. The high number of recruited participants, the low dropout rate, and high adherence to the training program confirm the feasibility of a multimodal machine-based exercise training program offered to residents in retirement homes. The results provide a basis for a cluster-randomized controlled trial aimed at further investigating the efficacy of the bestform-F program. Background: Prevalence studies of Internet addiction in the general population are rare. In addition, a lack of approved criteria hampers estimation of its occurrence. Aims: This study conducted a ...latent class analysis (LCA) in a large general population sample to estimate prevalence. Methods: A telephone survey was conducted based on a random digit dialling procedure including landline telephone (n = 14,022) and cell phone numbers (n = 1,001) in participants aged 14-64. The Compulsive Internet Use Scale (CIUS) served as the basis for a LCA used to look for subgroups representing participants with Internet addiction or at-risk use. CIUS was given to participants reporting to use the Internet for private purposes at least 1 h on a typical weekday or at least 1 h on a day at the weekend (n = 8,130). Results: A 6-class model showed best model fit and included two groups likely to represent Internet addiction and at-risk Internet use. Both groups showed less social participation and the Internet addiction group less general trust in other people. Proportions of probable Internet addiction were 1.0% (CI 0.9-1.2) among the entire sample, 2.4% (CI 1.9-3.1) in the age group 14-24, and 4.0% (CI 2.7-5.7) in the age group 14-16. No difference in estimated proportions between males and females was found. Unemployment (OR 3.13; CI 1.74-5.65) and migration background (OR 3.04; CI 2.12-4.36) were related to Internet addiction. Conclusions: This LCA-based study differentiated groups likely to have Internet addiction and at-risk use in the general population and provides characteristics to further define this rather new disorder.
Anti-IgLON5 disease is a recently discovered neurologic disorder combining autoimmunity and neurodegeneration. Core manifestations include sleep disorders, bulbar symptoms, gait abnormalities, and ...cognitive dysfunction, but other presentations have been reported. Hallmarks are autoantibodies targeting the neuronal surface protein IgLON5, a strong human leukocyte antigen system Class II association, and brainstem and hypothalamus-dominant tau deposits. The purpose of this cohort study was to visualize tau deposition in vivo with the second-generation tau-PET tracer.
A cohort of 4 patients with anti-IgLON5 disease underwent a dynamic PET scan with 18FPI-2620. One patient received a follow-up scan. Z-deviation maps and a 2-sample
test in comparison with healthy controls (n = 10) were performed. Antibody titers, neurofilament light chain, and disease duration were correlated with brainstem binding potentials.
Patients demonstrated increased 18FPI2620 tau binding potentials in the pons, dorsal medulla, and cerebellum. The longitudinal scan after 28 months showed an increase of tracer uptake in the medulla despite immunotherapy. Higher antibody titers and neurofilament light chain correlated with higher tracer retention.
The results indicate that tau depositions in anti-IgLON5 disease can be visualized with 18FPI-2620 and might correlate with the extent of disease. For validation, a larger longitudinal study is necessary.
The addiction treatment system only reaches a small number of individuals suffering from Internet-related disorders. Therefore, it is important to improve case detection for preventive measures and ...brief interventions. Existing screening instruments are often time-consuming and rarely validated using clinical criteria. The aim of this study is to develop an optimized short screening for problematic Internet use and Internet addiction (IA). A regression analysis was conducted in random subsamples of a merged sample (N = 3,040; N = 1,209) to examine the item performance of the Compulsive Internet Use Scale (CIUS). Based on the results, a short version of the CIUS was developed and compared with the original CIUS. A fully structured diagnostic interview, covering the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5) criteria for the Internet gaming disorder with a broader focus on all Internet activities, was conducted. A five-item version of the short screening performed best across the samples. Comparing the area under the curve (AUC) of the receiver operating characteristic between the Short CIUS and the original test revealed no significant difference (AUC = 0.968; 0.977). A cutoff point of 7 turned out to perform best for case detection and yielded a sensitivity of 0.95 and a specificity of 0.87, Cronbach's alpha was 0.77. The analysis showed that the performance of the Short CIUS is just as good in detecting problematical Internet use and IA as the performance of the original CIUS. The Short CIUS provides an economical and valid instrument for the assessment of problematic Internet use and IA.
Infants born very preterm are at high risk for neurological deficits including cerebral palsy. In this study we assessed the neuroprotective effects of umbilical cord blood cells (UCBCs) and optimal ...administration timing in a fetal sheep model of preterm brain injury. 50 million allogeneic UCBCs were intravenously administered to fetal sheep (0.7 gestation) at 12h or 5d after acute hypoxia-ischemia (HI) induced by umbilical cord occlusion. The fetal brains were collected at 10d after HI. HI (n=7) was associated with reduced number of oligodendrocytes (Olig2+) and myelin density (CNPase+), and increased density of activated microglia (Iba-1+) in cerebral white matter compared to control fetuses (P<0.05). UCBCs administered at 12h, but not 5d after HI, significantly protected white matter structures and suppressed cerebral inflammation. Activated microglial density showed a correlation with decreasing oligodendrocyte number (P<0.001). HI caused cell death (TUNEL+) in the internal capsule and cell proliferation (Ki-67+) in the subventricular zone compared to control (P<0.05), while UCBCs at 12h or 5d ameliorated these effects. Additionally, UCBCs at 12h induced a significant systemic increase in interleukin-10 at 10d, and reduced oxidative stress (malondialdehyde) following HI (P<0.05). UCBC administration at 12h after HI reduces preterm white matter injury, via anti-inflammatory and antioxidant actions.
•Early UCB cell administration after HI reduces preterm white matter injury.•UCB cells administered at 12h, but not 5d, post-HI suppress microglial activation.•Neuroprotection by UCB cells is contributed by anti-inflammatory and antioxidant actions.

Das im Körper gespeicherte Wissen spielt dabei eine bedeutende Rolle. Aus der Perspektive unterschiedlicher Autor*innen aus Kunst und Wissenschaft werden Wege aufgezeigt, wie aus verschiedenen Situationen neuartige Zugänge zu künstlerischer, forschender und vermittelnder Praxis entspringen können.
