The aim of the article is to assess the potential impacts of climate change on Slovenian forests in the period 2080–2100 based on two climate scenarios: SSP1-2.6 (optimistic) and SSP5-8.5 ...(pessimistic) using the MaxEnt software. Slovenian forests are divided at the ecological community level into thirteen forest vegetation types. Analyses of changes in ecological niche areas, distances of vectors between centroids of present areas and future ecological niches, and general spatial changes are carried out. In addition, changes in the altitudinal zones of forest vegetation types were investigated. The results indicate significant changes for Thermophilous beech forests and Thermophilous hop-hornbeam, sessile oak, downy oak, Scots pine and black pine forests. The potential changes in the altitudinal zones of forest vegetation types indicate a clear trend of forest vegetation types moving to higher altitudinal zones.
Soil research focuses mainly on soils on land, but the process of soil formation also takes place in shallow waters. Subaqueous soils form below the water surface, mainly on the bottom of shallow, ...stagnant waters such as bogs, swamps, lakes, and shoals in the sea. Three subaquatic soil profiles were investigated in the Strunjan Bay to study them in detail. The sites for the soil investigation were selected after observing the movement of seawater and thus its possible influence on subaquatic soils. All the soils studied are permanently and year-round under water. Therefore, all soil samples were collected under water using drainage pipes and by excavation. The samples were slowly drained in the pipes to prevent mixing of the material and to keep the horizons as intact as possible. Visual observations and standard analyses were carried out in the laboratory according to the identified horizons. During the investigation, we found that apart from water properties and movement, most soil-forming factors can be considered constant, so we investigated and presented a soil hydrosequence. According to the WRB classification, the subaqueous soils in the waters of the Strunjan Bay were divided into the reference groups Gleysols and Leptosols.
Maritime spatial planning (MSP) has been developing for years on the basis of international commitments, national legislations, and professional practices. Projects under European Territorial ...Cooperation have also made an important contribution to its development. They were designed to support EU countries in the implementation of MSP. The projects implemented in Slovenia always covered the entire national sea and coastal zone. In accordance with the MSP Directive, the countries of Northern Adriatic are currently preparing the first generation of maritime spatial plans, largely based on the experience and results gained from these projects. This article presents the results of research aimed at assessing the contribution of the projects to the preparation of the first plan in Slovenia. Using a descriptive research method, a detailed analysis of the results of seven projects was conducted and compared with the content of the draft plan. A comparison was made and the proportion of the results implementation in the draft plan was determined for the following structural elements: development baselines, objectives and guidelines; expert bases; stakeholders and public participation; sectoral interests; administrative competences; international dimension; and databases and analytical tools. A high degree of coherence was found, showing the obvious contribution of the projects at the methodological and structural levels.
