This research aims to assess the functionality of the VLP-32 LiDAR sensor, which serves as the principal sensor for object recognition in autonomous vehicles. The evaluation is conducted by ...simulating edge conditions the sensor might encounter in a controlled darkroom setting. Parameters for environmental conditions under examination encompass measurement distances ranging from 10 to 30 m, varying rainfall intensities (0, 20, 30, 40 mm/h), and different observation angles (0°, 30°, 60°). For the material aspects, the investigation incorporates reference materials, traffic signs, and road surfaces. Employing this diverse set of conditions, the study quantitatively assesses two critical performance metrics of LiDAR: intensity and NPC (number of point clouds). The results indicate a general decline in intensity as the measurement distance, rainfall intensity, and observation angles increase. Instances were identified where the sensor failed to record intensity for materials with low reflective properties. Concerning NPC, both the effective measurement area and recorded values demonstrated a decreasing trend with enlarging measurement distance and angles of observation. However, NPC metrics remained stable despite fluctuations in rainfall intensity.
The signal transmission mechanism on the surface of the human body is studied for the application to body channel communication (BCC). From Maxwell's equations, the complete equation of electrical ...field on the human body is developed to obtain a general BCC model. The mechanism of BCC consists of three parts according to the operating frequencies and channel distances: the quasi-static near-field coupling part, the reactive induction-field radiation part, and the surface wave far-field propagation part. The general BCC model by means of the near-field and far-field approximation is developed to be valid in the frequency range from 100 kHz to 100 MHz and distance up to 1.3 m based on the measurements of the body channel characteristics. Finally, path loss characteristics of BCC are formulated for the design of BCC systems and many potential applications.

Depending on the glass transition of a polystyrene (PS) substrate and electrochemical deposition (ECD) of electroactive Ni-Co layered double hydroxides (LDHs), a hierarchically designed flake-like morphology can be readily prepared to enhance the surface-active sites, which allows a rhombohedral Ni-Co LDHs electrode to obtain superior electrochemical properties. Further, the interactions between electrode and electrolyte during the diffusion of ions are highly simplified using multiple enhanced electroactive sites and shorter pathways for electron transfer. The unique surface architecture of the PS substrate and the synergistic effect of the bimetallic components in Ni-Co LDHs enable this substrate to obtain desired electrochemical activity in charge storage systems. Mutations in the transcription factor FOXA1 define a unique subset of prostate cancers but the functional consequences of these mutations and whether they confer gain or loss of function is unknown
. ...Here, by annotating the landscape of FOXA1 mutations from 3,086 human prostate cancers, we define two hotspots in the forkhead domain: Wing2 (around 50% of all mutations) and the highly conserved DNA-contact residue R219 (around 5% of all mutations). Wing2 mutations are detected in adenocarcinomas at all stages, whereas R219 mutations are enriched in metastatic tumours with neuroendocrine histology. Interrogation of the biological properties of wild-type FOXA1 and fourteen FOXA1 mutants reveals gain of function in mouse prostate organoid proliferation assays. Twelve of these mutants, as well as wild-type FOXA1, promoted an exaggerated pro-luminal differentiation program, whereas two different R219 mutants blocked luminal differentiation and activated a mesenchymal and neuroendocrine transcriptional program. Assay for transposase-accessible chromatin using sequencing (ATAC-seq) of wild-type FOXA1 and representative Wing2 and R219 mutants revealed marked, mutant-specific changes in open chromatin at thousands of genomic loci and exposed sites of FOXA1 binding and associated increases in gene expression. Of note, ATAC-seq peaks in cells expressing R219 mutants lacked the canonical core FOXA1-binding motifs (GTAAAC/T) but were enriched for a related, non-canonical motif (GTAAAG/A), which was preferentially activated by R219-mutant FOXA1 in reporter assays. Thus, FOXA1 mutations alter its pioneering function and perturb normal luminal epithelial differentiation programs, providing further support for the role of lineage plasticity in cancer progression.
The phytohormone auxin is a key developmental signal in plants. So far, only auxin perception has been described to trigger the release of transcription factors termed Auxin Response Factors (ARFs) ...from their auxin/indole-3-acetic acid (AUX/IAA) repressor proteins. Here, we show that phosphorylation of ARF7 and ARF19 by BRASSINOSTEROID-insensitive2 (BIN2) can also potentiate auxin signalling output during lateral root organogenesis. BIN2-mediated phosphorylation of ARF7 and ARF19 suppresses their interaction with AUX/IAAs, and subsequently enhances the transcriptional activity to their target genes lateral organ boundaries-domain16 (LBD16) and LBD29. In this context, BIN2 is under the control of the Tracheary element differentiation inhibitory factor (TDIF)-TDIF receptor (TDR) module. TDIF-initiated TDR signalling directly acts on BIN2-mediated ARF phosphorylation, leading to the regulation of auxin signalling during lateral root development. In summary, this study delineates a TDIF-TDR-BIN2 signalling cascade that controls regulation of ARF and AUX/IAA interaction independent of auxin perception during lateral root development.
Developmental plasticity, defined as the capacity to respond to changing environmental conditions, is an inherent feature of plant growth. Recent studies have brought the phloem tissue, the ...quintessential conduit for energy metabolites and inter-organ communication, into focus as an instructive developmental system. Those studies have clarified long-standing questions about essential aspects of phloem development and function, such as the pressure flow hypothesis, mechanisms of phloem unloading, and source–sink relationships. Interestingly, plants with impaired phloem development show characteristic changes in body architecture, thereby highlighting the capacity of the phloem to integrate environmental cues and to fine-tune plant development. Therefore, understanding the plasticity of phloem development provides scenarios of how environmental stimuli are translated into differential plant growth. In this Review, we summarize novel insights into how phloem identity is established and how phloem cells fulfil their core function as transport units. Moreover, we discuss possible interfaces between phloem physiology and development as sites for mediating the plastic growth mode of plants.

With aging, disability of the body can easily occur because the function of the body is degraded. Especially, swallowing disorder is regarded as a crucial issue because patients cannot obtain the ...nutrients from food by swallowing it. Hence, the rehabilitation of swallowing disorder is urgently required. However, the conventional device for swallowing rehabilitation has shown some limitations due to its external power source and internal circuit. Herein, a self-powered triboelectric nanogenerator for swallowing rehabilitation (TSR) is proposed. To increase the electrical output and pressure sensitivity of the TSR, the tilted reactive ion etching is conducted and the electrical output and pressure sensitivity are increased by 206% and 370%, respectively. The effect of the tilted reactive ion etching into the electrical output generated from the TSR is systematically analyzed. When the tongue is pressing, licking, and holding the TSR, each motion is successfully detected through the proposed TSR. Based on these results, the smart swallowing rehabilitation monitoring system (SSRMS) is implemented as the application and the SSRMS could successfully detect the pressing by the tongue. Considering these results, the SSRMS can be expected to be utilized as a promising smart swallowing rehabilitation monitoring system in near future.
This paper proposes a modification to Tanner's work for constructing girth‐8 quasi‐cyclic low‐density parity‐check codes. The main contribution of this paper is to use an arithmetic sequence at the ...leftmost column for the exponent matrix so that the lifting size is not necessarily restricted to the prime numbers. Two theorems on the lifting sizes that achieve girth at least 8 using this approach is also provided. This construction exhibits better frame error rate results to the modified 5G new radio (NR) low‐density parity‐check codes for lengths around 500. Also, this construction achieves better frame error rate performance results than the recently proposed one using the Golomb rulers at around frame error rate of 10−6.
We propose a variation of Tanner's construction for quasi‐cyclic low‐density parity‐check codes in a way that allows us to use NON‐prime lifting sizes by using some arithmetic sequences instead of geometric sequences. We prove two theorems on the values of this lifting sizes so that the resulting code has girth at least 8. The resulting codes turned out to have better performance in terms of frame error rate at code lengths around 500, which is confirmed by computer simulation.
Transcriptional regulatory mechanisms of lineage priming in embryonic development are largely uncharacterized because of the difficulty of isolating transient progenitor populations. Directed ...differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) combined with gene editing provides a powerful system to define precise temporal gene requirements for progressive chromatin changes during cell fate transitions. Here, we map the dynamic chromatin landscape associated with sequential stages of pancreatic differentiation from hPSCs. Our analysis of chromatin accessibility dynamics led us to uncover a requirement for FOXA2, known as a pioneer factor, in human pancreas specification not previously shown from mouse knockout studies. FOXA2 knockout hPSCs formed reduced numbers of pancreatic progenitors accompanied by impaired recruitment of GATA6 to pancreatic enhancers. Furthermore, FOXA2 is required for proper chromatin remodeling and H3K4me1 deposition during enhancer priming. This work highlights the power of combining hPSC differentiation, genome editing, and computational genomics for discovering transcriptional mechanisms during development.
CCCTC-binding factor (CTCF) is critical to three-dimensional genome organization. Upon differentiation, CTCF insulates active and repressed genes within Hox gene clusters. We conducted a genome-wide ...CRISPR knockout (KO) screen to identify genes required for CTCF-boundary activity at the HoxA cluster, complemented by biochemical approaches. Among the candidates, we identified Myc-associated zinc-finger protein (MAZ) as a cofactor in CTCF insulation. MAZ colocalizes with CTCF at chromatin borders and, similar to CTCF, interacts with the cohesin subunit RAD21. MAZ KO disrupts gene expression and local contacts within topologically associating domains. Similar to CTCF motif deletions, MAZ motif deletions lead to derepression of posterior Hox genes immediately after CTCF boundaries upon differentiation, giving rise to homeotic transformations in mouse. Thus, MAZ is a factor contributing to appropriate insulation, gene expression and genomic architecture during development.
