Abstract
Reference materials for the Rockwell, Brinell and Vickers hardness scales are fundamental for the Brazilian industrial sector. Mechanical property Hardness is the most common mechanical test ...used for quality control of raw materials in finished products as well as in research and development of new products and materials. A description of the main findings of two studies and the revalidation of the last on the demand of hardness reference blocks in Brazil is presented. This paper shows national demand of hardness reference blocks could be supplied on a large scale by Inmetro´s Force Laboratory.
Polímeros termoplásticos aromáticos como o poli (éter-éter cetona) PEEK têm se mostrado muito promissores para a produção de membranas trocadoras de prótons (PEM), devido as suas propriedades. ...Estudos demonstram que polímeros modificados quimicamente podem apresentar características originais melhoradas. O processo de funcionalização por sulfonação é uma das estratégias de modificação de materiais poliméricos, que promove maior hidrofilicidade, melhor condutividade iônica, maior molhabilidade e melhor desempenho como PEM. O PEEK foi tratado com ácido sulfúrico, obtendo-se o SPEEK. O polímero foi titulado a fim de estudar seu grau de sulfonação (SD), avaliar sua relação com a capacidade de troca iônica (IEC) e sua potencial aplicação como PEM. Amostras de 0,3 g SPEEK foram imersas em solução de cloreto de sódio para a realização da troca protônica. Foram realizadas as titulações das soluções salinas com hidróxido de sódio e, através do volume obtido, foram obtidos sua IEC = 0,5435 meq.g-1 e seu SD = 0,61. Comprovou-se que a relação entre a massa de polímero, grau de sulfonação e capacidade de troca iônica pode ser modificada, em razão da otimização da quantidade disponível de polímero e que, tendo o conhecimento do SD do polímero é possível estimar a quantidade de base a ser consumida, que está relacionada quantidade de prótons oriundos do SPEEK e presentes na solução salina.
This work aims to relate the influence of illumination level of the system of optical microscopy on the measured value of Vickers hardness of metallic materials. The selected metallic Vickers ...standard hardness blocks selected had nominal hardness values of 129, 551 and 827 HV3, representing metals of hardness scales in the ranges of low, medium and high hardness, respectively. Metrological reliable tests were performed by using the INMETRO's Primary Hardness Standardization Machine (reference machine for measuring hardness in Brazil), where calibrations for Brinell, Rockwell and Vickers hardness scales are made. As a conclusion, the level of illumination provided to the image projected by the optical microscope is of fundamental importance for the calculation of Vickers hardness. So, the hardness measurements in the Brazilian industries of the steelworking and metal-mechanical sectors will have assured the reliability of the measurements in their production lines, yielding in the production of highest quality metallic products.
This work aims the presentation of the methodology for the determination of the best measurement capability in Brinell hardness of the Hardness Primary Standard Machine installed at the Brazilian ...National Metrology Institute INMETRO. All calculations and calibrations were carried out in accordance to the methods of the relevant ISO standards and the Guide to the Expression of the Measurement Uncertainty in Hardness. This way, the determination of the strongest influencing factors for the measurements in the Hardness Machine followed the quantitative and statistical methods listed in the Guide. Three hardness reference blocks HBW 2.5/187.5 were used in the hardness ranges 100 (low), 300 (medium) e 600 (high). The best measurement capability was estimated as 1.3 HBW or 0.38%.
