This ethnographic paper documents the gendered spaces created by China's returned dagongmei (factory girls) in the context of industrial relocation from coastal regions to neoliberalizing ...hinterlands. It finds that these rural women's locality selection decisions for industrial work, either in the new local industrial park, or in their own upstart living-room factories, help them bargain with patriarchy upon their return. By utilizing market forces and entrepreneurial mindsets in the relocated industrial sectors prioritized by local governments, they eventually shift the familial patriarchy. They also penetrate the hegemony of neoliberalism, and strategically align with patriarchal resources when disadvantaged in the capital chain. This study uncovers the simultaneous presence and dynamic interactions of intersectional structural power systems and the women's multiple forms of practices. In doing so, it also documents the Chinese versions of 'bargaining with patriarchy' and neoliberalism.
This paper is concerned with the event-triggered control (ETC) problem for switched systems in networked environments, which are suffered from denial-of-service (DoS) attack and deception attack. ...Considering that the packet in networked switched systems contains the sampled state and switching signal, DoS attack prevents the packet transmission to cause the zero input, while deception attack falsifies the packet to cause the asynchronous control input with nonlinear disturbance. First, the probabilistic characterization of invalid packet transmissions caused by two different attack models is constructed, namely the ratio of the number of packet transmissions suffering from network attacks to the total number of packet transmissions. Second, a suitable ETC scheme is designed to determine the next triggering instant, which guarantees that the value of Lyapunov function cannot exceed a given restriction and updates the control input at switching instant. After that, the average dwell time and control gains are designed to guarantee the almost sure asymptotic stability of such systems. Finally, a numerical simulation is given to verify the effectiveness of the theoretical results.
One of the hallmark mechanisms activated by type I interferons (IFNs) in human tissues involves cleavage of intracellular RNA by the kinase homology endoribonuclease RNase L. We report 2.8 and 2.1 ...angstrom crystal structures of human RNase L in complexes with synthetic and natural ligands and a fragment of an RNA substrate. RNase L forms a crossed homodimer stabilized by ankyrin (ANK) and kinase homology (KH) domains, which positions two kinase extension nuclease (KEN) domains for asymmetric RNA recognition. One KEN protomer recognizes an identity nucleotide (U), whereas the other protomer cleaves RNA between nucleotides +1 and +2. The coordinated action of the ANK, KH, and KEN domains thereby provides regulated, sequence-specific cleavage of viral and host RNA targets by RNase L.
As micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) technology continues its rapid ascent, a growing array of smart devices are integrating lightweight, compact, and cost-efficient magnetometers and inertial ...sensors, paving the way for advanced human motion analysis. However, sensors housed within smartphones frequently grapple with the detrimental effects of magnetic interference on heading estimation, resulting in diminished accuracy. To counteract this challenge, this study introduces a method that synergistically employs convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and support vector machines (SVMs) for adept interference detection. Utilizing a CNN, we automatically extract profound features from single-step pedestrian motion data that are then channeled into an SVM for interference detection. Based on these insights, we formulate heading estimation strategies aptly suited for scenarios both devoid of and subjected to magnetic interference. Empirical assessments underscore our method's prowess, boasting an impressive interference detection accuracy of 99.38%. In indoor environments influenced by such magnetic disturbances, evaluations conducted along square and equilateral triangle trajectories revealed single-step heading absolute error averages of 2.1891° and 1.5805°, with positioning errors averaging 0.7565 m and 0.3856 m, respectively. These results lucidly attest to the robustness of our proposed approach in enhancing indoor pedestrian positioning accuracy in the face of magnetic interferences.
Abstract
Background:
Thymic carcinomas (TCs) and thymic neuroendocrine neoplasms (TNENs) are two aggressive subtypes of thymic malignancy. Traditional therapy for advanced TCs and TNENs has limited ...outcome. New genomic profiling of TCs and TNENs might provide insights that contribute to the development of new treatment approaches.
Methods:
We used gene panel sequencing technologies to investigate the genetic aberrations of 32 TC patients and 15 TNEN patients who underwent surgery at Shanghai Chest Hospital between 2015 and 2017. Patient samples were sequenced using a 324-gene platform with licensed technologies. In this study, we focused on clinically relevant genomic alterations (CRGAs), which are previously proven to be pathogenic alterations, to identify the pathology-specific mutational patterns, prognostic signatures of TCs and TNENs.
Results:
The mutational profiles between TCs and TNENs were diverse. The genetic alterations that ranked highest in TCs were in
CDKN2A, TP53, ASXL1, CDKN2B, PIK3C2G, PTCH1,
and
ROS1
, while those in TNENs were in
MEN1, MLL2, APC, RB1
, and
TSC2
. Prognostic analysis showed that mutations of
ROS1, CDKN2A, CDKN2B, BRAF,
and
BAP1
were significantly associated with worse outcomes in TC patients, and that mutation of
ERBB2
indicated shortened disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) in TNEN patients. Further investigation found that the prognosis-related genes were focused on signal pathways of cell cycle control, chromatin remodeling/DNA methylation, phosphoinositide 3-kinases (PI3K)/protein kinase B (AKT)/mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), and receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK)/RAS/mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling.
Conclusion:
We profiled the mutational features of 47 Chinese patients with thymic malignancy of diverse pathologic phenotypes to uncover the integrated genomic landscape of these rare tumors, and identified the pathology-specific mutational patterns, prognostic signatures, and potential therapeutic targets for TCs and TNENs.
Germ cell tumours with somatic-type solid malignancy (GCT-STM) are a rare disease of the mediastinum. Recently, a cohort of vasculogenic mesenchymal tumour (VMT)-nonseminoma cases with different ...prognoses were recognized and reported. Here, we report a case of mediastinal high-grade VMT with a seminoma. A 16-year-old male had a fever, chest tightness and fatigue. Chest CT showed a 7.5 cm×5.3 cm solid mass in the right anterior mediastinum. The serum levels of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (β-HCG) and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) were within the normal range. Tumorectomy was performed. The tumour was irregular, and no capsule was found. The cut surface was greyish white and greyish brown with medium consistency. There were foci of bleeding and necrosis. Microscopic histology showed prominent vascular proliferation, which was lined by mildly atypical endothelial cells in a cellular stroma with significant cytologic atypia. The vascular spectrum varied from crevice-like or antler-like thin- to thick-walled vessels. Beyond the tumour area, inside the remnant thymus tissues, there were small clusters of polygonal tumour cells with clear cytoplasm, distinct cell membranes, and round to polygonal nuclei with prominent nucleoli that were positive for Oct4, PLAP, SALL4 and CD117. The patient did not receive any treatments pre- or postoperation, and his condition was stable without progression after 14 months of follow-up evaluation. Here, we added a new entity of GCT-STM of the mediastinum composed of VMT and seminoma. A better understanding of the pathological features of GCT-VMT could help pathologists improve their awareness of these rare diseases.
This paper studies the problem of dynamic output feedback control for networked switched systems which suffer from the asynchronism and deception attack. Different from the general asynchronism that ...only occurs when there exists at least once switching during the transmission interval, deception attack falsifies the sampled information containing the measured output and switching signal at any transmission instants, and causes the asynchronous control input with nonlinear disturbance inevitably. Then, by employing the different closed-loop systems caused by switching and attack, a stochastic upper bound for controller-mode-dependent Lyapunov function is obtained under the proposed randomized transmission scheme. Under the dynamic output feedback controller, a set of sufficient conditions for this upper bound tending to zero is developed, which indicates the almost sure asymptotic stability of switched systems with the sequence-based average dwell time method. Finally, the effectiveness of the theoretical result is illustrated by adjusting the power voltage in switched RLC circuit model.
Sulfurimonas denitrificans was originally isolated from coastal marine sediments. It can grow with thiosulfate and nitrate or sulfide and oxygen. Recently sequencing of its genome revealed that it ...encodes periplasmic and cytoplasmic NiFe-hydrogenases but the role of hydrogen for its metabolism has remained unknown. We show the first experimental evidence that S. denitrificans can indeed express a functional hydrogen uptake active hydrogenase and can grow on hydrogen. In fact, under the provided conditions it grew faster and denser on hydrogen than on thiosulfate alone and even grew with hydrogen in the absence of reduced sulfur compounds. In our experiments, at the time points tested, the hydrogen uptake activity appeared to be related to the periplasmic hydrogenase and not to the cytoplasmic hydrogenase. Our data suggest that under the provided conditions S. denitrificans can grow more efficiently with hydrogen than with thiosulfate.
Objective
The aim of this study was to explore the occurrence and prognostic value of perineural invasion (PNI) as a classic tumor pathological feature in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC).

We retrospectively enrolled 794 ESCC patients who underwent radical esophagectomy at Shanghai Chest Hospital from 2017 to 2018. The incidence, associated factors, and prognosis of PNI were analyzed.
Results
PNI was identified in 15.7% (125/794) of patients. The presence of PNI was significantly associated with depth of invasion (
p
< 0.001), pN stage (
p
= 0.008), tumor stage (
p
< 0.001), and lymphovascular invasion (LVI;
p
< 0.001). Multivariate logistic regression analysis demonstrated that advanced pT stage and LVI were independently associated with the presence of PNI, while multivariate Cox regression analysis demonstrated that PNI was not an independent risk factor for poor overall survival (OS) or recurrence-free survival (RFS) in ESCC patients (OS hazard ratio HR 0.688, 95% confidence interval CI 0.448–1.056,

= 0.087; RFS HR 0.837, 95% CI 0.551–1.273,

= 0.406). In the PNI-positive patient subgroup, adjuvant therapy was associated with better OS and RFS.
Conclusion
PNI correlates with, and may be a concomitant consequence of, LVI and advanced tumor invasion (T3–4) in ESCC patients. Although PNI was not identified as an independent prognostic indicator, our results suggest ESCC patients with PNI should be considered for adjuvant therapy.
Indoor positioning using smartphones has garnered significant research attention. Geomagnetic and sensor data offer convenient methods for achieving this goal. However, conventional geomagnetic ...indoor positioning encounters several limitations, including low spatial resolution, poor accuracy, and stability issues. To address these challenges, we propose a fusion positioning approach. This approach integrates geomagnetic data, light intensity measurements, and inertial navigation data, utilizing a hierarchical optimization strategy. We employ a Tent-ASO-BP model that enhances the traditional Back Propagation (BP) algorithm through the integration of chaos mapping and Atom Search Optimization (ASO). In the offline phase, we construct a dual-resolution fingerprint database using Radial Basis Function (RBF) interpolation. This database amalgamates geomagnetic and light intensity data. The fused positioning results are obtained via the first layer of the Tent-ASO-BP model. We add a second Tent-ASO-BP layer and use an improved Pedestrian Dead Reckoning (PDR) method to derive the walking trajectory from smartphone sensors. In PDR, we apply the Biased Kalman Filter–Wavelet Transform (BKF-WT) for optimal heading estimation and set a time threshold to mitigate the effects of false peaks and valleys. The second-layer model combines geomagnetic and light intensity fusion coordinates with PDR coordinates. The experimental results demonstrate that our proposed positioning method not only effectively reduces positioning errors but also improves robustness across different application scenarios.
