Intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) is regularly expressed or inducible on all major cutaneous cell populations including Langerhans cells, keratinocytes, endothelial cells and dermal ...fibroblasts. ICAM-1 is induced in the skin under inflammatory conditions and plays an important role in the activation of T cells. Interleukin-10 (IL-10) is a pluripotent immunosuppressive cytokine that inhibits proliferation of T cells via inhibition of antigen-presenting cells including Langerhans cells. We demonstrates that IL-10 inhibits baseline and also cytokine-stimulated ICAM-1 expression on human Langerhans cells, which has previously been shown in the murine system. No effect of IL-10 was seen on human dermal vascular endothelial cells, which like Langerhans cells are also able to present antigen. Additionally, no inhibitory effect of IL-10 was observed on the ICAM-1 expression of keratinocytes and dermal fibroblasts. As IL-10 only weakly suppresses MCH II on human Langerhans cells, inhibition of ICAM-1 and other accessory molecules by IL-10 seems to be an important mechanism inhibiting the antigen-presenting function of human Langerhans cells.
Validation metrics are key for the reliable tracking of scientific progress and for bridging the current chasm between artificial intelligence (AI) research and its translation into practice. ...However, increasing evidence shows that particularly in image analysis, metrics are often chosen inadequately in relation to the underlying research problem. This could be attributed to a lack of accessibility of metric-related knowledge: While taking into account the individual strengths, weaknesses, and limitations of validation metrics is a critical prerequisite to making educated choices, the relevant knowledge is currently scattered and poorly accessible to individual researchers. Based on a multi-stage Delphi process conducted by a multidisciplinary expert consortium as well as extensive community feedback, the present work provides the first reliable and comprehensive common point of access to information on pitfalls related to validation metrics in image analysis. Focusing on biomedical image analysis but with the potential of transfer to other fields, the addressed pitfalls generalize across application domains and are categorized according to a newly created, domain-agnostic taxonomy. To facilitate comprehension, illustrations and specific examples accompany each pitfall. As a structured body of information accessible to researchers of all levels of expertise, this work enhances global comprehension of a key topic in image analysis validation.

Im Auftrag des Bundesministeriums für Arbeit und Soziales hat TNS Infratest Sozialforschung, München, im Jahr 2011 zum siebten Mal nach 1986, 1992, 1995, 1999, 2003 und 2007 eine breit angelegte ...Untersuchung zur Alterssicherung in Deutschland durchgeführt. Analysiert werden die Lebenssituation sowie Art, Höhe, Verteilung und Determinanten der Einkommen der Bevölkerung ab 55 Jahren auf der Ebene von Personen und Ehepaaren. Mit dem Ziel, die Datenlage zur Einkommenssituation älterer Ausländer zu verbessern, wurde 2011 erstmals die Bevölkerung mit einer ausländischen Staatsbürgerschaft differenzierter erfasst. Hierzu wurde zum einen für die zahlenmäßig fünf stärksten ausländischen Nationalitäten - Türken, Italiener, Kroaten, Griechen, Polen - eine überproportionale Ausländerstichprobe einbezogen. Zum anderen wurden für eben diese fünf Nationalitäten neben den deutschsprachigen Erhebungsinstrumenten Fragebogen, Anschreiben und Datenschutzerklärungen in der jeweiligen Muttersprache eingesetzt. Außerdem wurden erstmals weitere ausländer- bzw. migrantenspezifische Informationen (z.B. Spätaussiedlerstatus, deutsche Sprachkenntnisse) erhoben.
In 2011, the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs commissioned TNS Infratest Sozialforschung to carry out the study “Distribution of retirement provision in 2011,” which draws a ...differentiated picture of the state-funded additional pension provision of employees aged 25 to under 65 years who are subject to social insurance. This research project analyzes, among other things, the extent to which occupational retirement provision and the Riester pension are cumulated. In addition to the socio-demographic characteristics of the interviewees, the central survey status was the number of (currently served) precautionary contracts and the amount of current contributions and entitlements.
Das Bundesministerium für Arbeit und Soziales hat TNS Infratest Sozialforschung im Jahr 2011 mit der Durchführung der Untersuchung "Verbreitung der Altersvorsorge 2011" beauftragt, mit der auf Basis einer schriftlichen Befragung von mehr als 10.800 Personen ein differenziertes Bild von der staatlich geförderten zusätzlichen Altersvorsorge der 25- bis unter 65-jährigen sozialversicherungspflichtig Beschäftigten gezeichnet wird. Im Rahmen dieses Forschungsprojektes wird u.a. analysiert, in wieweit bei dieser Personengruppe betriebliche Altersversorgung und Riester-Rente kumuliert auftreten. Die zentralen Erhebungstatbestände waren neben den soziodemographischen Merkmalen der Befragten die Zahl der (aktuell bedienten) Vorsorgeverträge sowie die Höhe der aktuellen Beiträge und Anwartschaften.
