We report the detection and validation of two planets orbiting TOI-2095 (TIC 235678745). The host star is a 3700K M1V dwarf with a high proper motion. The star lies at a distance of 42 pc in a ...sparsely populated portion of the sky and is bright in the infrared (K=9). With data from 24 Sectors of observation during TESS's Cycles 2 and 4, TOI-2095 exhibits two sets of transits associated with super-Earth-sized planets. The planets have orbital periods of 17.7 days and 28.2 days and radii of 1.30 and 1.39 Earth radii, respectively. Archival data, preliminary follow-up observations, and vetting analyses support the planetary interpretation of the detected transit signals. The pair of planets have estimated equilibrium temperatures of approximately 400 K, with stellar insolations of 3.23 and 1.73 times that of Earth, placing them in the Venus zone. The planets also lie in a radius regime signaling the transition between rock-dominated and volatile-rich compositions. They are thus prime targets for follow-up mass measurements to better understand the properties of warm, transition radius planets. The relatively long orbital periods of these two planets provide crucial data that can help shed light on the processes that shape the composition of small planets orbiting M dwarfs.
Promastigotes of Leishmania major LRC-L137, L. donovani LEM 75, and L. tropica LRC-L32 were surface radioiodinated. The proteins of the parasites were analysed by sodium dodecyl ...sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and labeled molecules were revealed by fluorography. A single major iodinated protein of Mr 63 000 (p63) was identified in each of the three species. These proteins were partially purified by phase separation in Triton X-114 solution, demonstrating that the p63 of each of the three species is the most abundant integral membrane protein in the promastigote. Peptide maps were obtained by partial proteolysis with N-chlorosuccinimide or Staphylococcus V8 protease followed by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The maps of L. major and L. donovani were identical, but only partially homologous to the maps of L. tropica p63. Finally, immunological crossreactivity among the three p63s was demonstrated with the serum of a mouse immunized with purified L. major p63, and the serum of a dog naturally infected with L. donovani. The data show that the major surface proteins found on promastigotes of three Old World Leishmania species are structurally related.
We present the discovery and validation of a three-planet system orbiting the nearby (31.1 pc) M2 dwarf star TOI-700 (TIC 150428135). TOI-700 lies in the TESS continuous viewing zone in the Southern ...Ecliptic Hemisphere; observations spanning 11 sectors reveal three planets with radii ranging from 1 R\(_\oplus\) to 2.6 R\(_\oplus\) and orbital periods ranging from 9.98 to 37.43 days. Ground-based follow-up combined with diagnostic vetting and validation tests enable us to rule out common astrophysical false-positive scenarios and validate the system of planets. The outermost planet, TOI-700 d, has a radius of \(1.19\pm0.11\) R\(_\oplus\) and resides in the conservative habitable zone of its host star, where it receives a flux from its star that is approximately 86% of the Earth's insolation. In contrast to some other low-mass stars that host Earth-sized planets in their habitable zones, TOI-700 exhibits low levels of stellar activity, presenting a valuable opportunity to study potentially-rocky planets over a wide range of conditions affecting atmospheric escape. While atmospheric characterization of TOI-700 d with the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) will be challenging, the larger sub-Neptune, TOI-700 c (R = 2.63 R\(_\oplus\)), will be an excellent target for JWST and beyond. TESS is scheduled to return to the Southern Hemisphere and observe TOI-700 for an additional 11 sectors in its extended mission, which should provide further constraints on the known planet parameters and searches for additional planets and transit timing variations in the system.
Blood pressure (BP) variability depends on external and internal factors. Among these, arterial baroreflex play an important role. The matter of this study is to assess the relationship between these ...two parameters in borderline hypertension (BL). Twenty six BL male hypertensive were recruited for the study, all gave informed consent. Age: 21 +/- 2 years, height: 177 +/- 8 cm, weight: 77 +/- 14 kg. An ambulatory BP monitoring was performed in each one using a Diasys (Novacor) recorder. Measurements were obtained each 15 minutes for 24 hours. Mean, standard deviation and variation coefficient (VC) of BP and heart rate (HR) were computed for 24 hours, daytime (9a.m.-7 p.m.), nighttime (11 p.m.-7 a.m.). Baroreflex sensitivity (BRS) was determined as the ratio of HR variation on systolic BP variation recorded with a Finapres device from the fourth phase of a Valsalva manoeuvre. Mean systolic and diastolic BP values for 24 hours, daytime and nighttime are: 129 +/- 11/73 +/- 13, 137 +/- 14/76 +/- 15, 114 +/- 11/69 +/- 12 mmHg. VC are: 12 +/- 3/15 +/- 3, 9 +/- 3/13 +/- 3, 10 +/- 3/13 +/- 4%. HR values are: 73 +/- 10, 84 +/- 14, 58 +/- 7 b/min, VC are: 24 +/- 5, 17 +/- 4, 17 +/- 7%. Index for BRS = 1.76 +/- 0.65%. There is no correlation between BRS and systolic BP or HR. BRS is correlated to the inverse of systolic daytime BP VC: r = -0.556, p = 0.003. There is no correlation with other parameters. This study provides evidence for a link between BRS and daytime BP variability in borderline hypertension.
Erythrocytes from both normal and sickle cell donors were incubated on a bed of cultured rat vascular endothelial cells. Although the adherence of the erythrocytes to the endothelial cells was ...equivalent for both classes of donor, addition of 1.5 mM piracetam significantly decreased this adherence regardless of donor.
