Background: a quality management system provides the organizational structure, the processes, procedures and tools to implement the necessary activities to achieve the objectives and quality ...requirements. Objective: to describe the tasks undertaken for implementing a quality management system for laboratories at the Immunology and Biological Products Center of the Camagüey Univer-sity of Medical Sciences. Methods: a research in health systems and services was carried out in the three teaching labora-tories of Basic Biomedical Sciences and the clinical determinations laboratory at the Immunology and Biological Products Center of the Camagüey University of Medical Sci-ences, from April 2016 to December 2018. Results: the tasks were: training of the whole personnel in quality management issues, diagnosis of the situation of the laboratories in relation to quality, elaboration of the time table by stages, the policy, the objectives of quality and the strategic projection of the center; all the activities carried out in the laboratories were organized in the general diagram of processes; indicators to measure effectiveness and efficiency were designed; and the documentation of the whole system is in process. Conclusions: work is being done in the process of implementing a quality management system in the teaching laboratories of the basic biomedical sciences and in the clinical determinations laboratory of the Immunology and Biological Products Center of the Medical Sciences University of Camagüey, the initial tasks have been fulfilled and presently the elaboration of all the system's documentation is in progress. The integration of art therapy with positive psychology is a rich and valuable collaboration toward the pursuit of well‐being and optimal functioning. Art therapy has the potential of motivating ...clients to reveal more of who they are to themselves. This chapter provides a brief definition of positive psychology, along with a list of the five elements found to be critical to well‐being and a chart identifying the six virtues and 24 “signature strengths” that support these five elements. Three case examples, a child, an adolescent, and an adult, illustrate the integration of positive psychology theory with art therapy practice. The intention is to inform and inspire other art therapists and related professionals to consider utilizing this approach personally and professionally. Enhancing one's own experience of living requires deliberate moment‐to‐moment non‐judgmental self‐awareness (mindfulness), self and social compassion, kindness, and a willingness to move beyond self and promote well‐being globally.
RESUMEN Fundamento: el sistema de la calidad se define como un conjunto de políticas, objetivos, procesos, documentos y recursos que conducen a asegurar la calidad, no solo del producto sino de la ...organización como un todo, al buscar la máxima satisfacción de los clientes o los usuarios. Objetivo: divulgar elementos teóricos sobre la importancia de la implementación de un sistema de gestión para garantizar la calidad en la docencia, en las investigaciones y en la asistencia médica. Métodos: con los descriptores sistema de gestión de la calidad y calidad en salud, se realizó una búsqueda bibliográfica en las plataformas de acceso a bases de datos de la red de información de salud cubana Infomed, dentro de ellas en EBSCOhost, PubMed/Medline y SciELO, y una revisión documental de la base normativa que establece los requisitos a cumplir para la implementación del sistema. Desarrollo: se aborda la importancia de la implementación de un sistema de gestión de la calidad en la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas y las numerosas ventajas que ofrece; las más señaladas son una mayor optimización de los recursos, y mejoría de la comunicación interna y de la imagen externa de la organización. Conclusiones: el sistema de evaluación y acreditación de instituciones y programas universitarios constituye el motor impulsor de la gestión de la calidad universitaria, se demuestra la importancia de implementar un sistema de gestión de la calidad en la universidad médica para lograr resultados superiores en el proceso de formación y desarrollo de los profesionales de la salud.
Background: the quality system is defined as a set of policies, objectives, processes, documents and resources that lead to quality assurance, not only of the product but of the organization as a ...whole, seeking the maximum satisfaction of the clients or the users. Objective: to spread theoretical elements on the importance of the implementation of a management system to ensure quality in teaching, research and medical assistance. Methods: with the descriptors health quality and quality management system, a bibliographic search was carried out in the access platforms to databases of the Cuban health information network Infomed, within them in EBSCOhost, PubMed/Medline and SciELO, and a documents’ review of the normative bases that establish the requirements to be met for the implementation of the system. Development: it is addressed the importance of the implementation of a Quality Management System at the University of Medical Sciences and the many advantages it offers; the most indicated are a greater optimization of resources, and improvement of internal communication and the external image of the organization. Conclusions: the system of evaluation and accreditation of university institutions and programs is the driving force of the University Quality Management, demonstrating the importance of implementing a quality management system in the medical university to achieve superior results in the process of training and development of health professionals. Introducción: las pruebas diagnósticas son herramientas de ayuda para la decisión clínica, de manera que su uso se considera inapropiado cuando aportan información escasa o nula para tal decisión. La ...medicina de laboratorio basada en la evidencia combina la epidemiología clínica, la estadística y las ciencias sociales con la bioquímica clásica y la molecular, con vistas a mejorar la efectividad y la eficiencia de las pruebas de laboratorio. Objetivo: demostrar el uso irracional de las pruebas de laboratorio por parte de los médicos de asistencia. Métodos: se realizó un estudio longitudinal y descriptivo de 174 236 determinaciones de laboratorio, de 40 424 pacientes, atendidos en el Hospital Pediátrico Provincial Universitario "Eduardo Agramante Piña" de Camagüey, desde julio hasta diciembre de 2013. Resultados: en la serie predominaron los exámenes realizados por consulta externa, entre ellos los hematológicos; asimismo, un porcentaje elevado de indicaciones no guardó relación con la clínica. Conclusiones: la utilización adecuada del método clinicoepidemiológico, evita el uso inapropiado de los exámenes complementarios, de ahí la necesidad de una mayor interrelación entre los médicos de asistencia y el personal del laboratorio
Introduction: the diagnosis tests are tools to help for the clinical decision, so that their use is considered inappropriate when they result in scarce or null information for such a decision. The ...laboratory medicine based on evidence combines the clinical epidemiology, statistic and the social sciences with the classic and the molecular biochemistry, with the aim of improving the effectiveness and the efficiency of the laboratory exams. Objective: to demonstrate the irrational use of the laboratory exams by the assistance doctors. Methods: was carried out A longitudinal and descriptive study of 174 236 laboratory determinations, of 40 424 patients, assisted in "Eduardo Agramante Piña” University Provincial Pediatric Hospital in Camagüey, from July to December, 2013. Results: in the series the exams carried out by the out-patients department prevailed, among them the hematological exams; also, a high percentage of indications tests keep relationship with the clinic. Conclusions: the appropriate use of the clinical and epidemiological method, avoids the inappropriate use of complementary exams, so, a wider interrelation between the assistance doctors and the laboratory staff is recommended.
Objetivos. Evaluar la citotoxicidad y el efecto de las soluciones desinfectantes sobre la topografía de la superficie de los alineadores Invisalign. Métodos. Los especímenes fueron obtenidos de ...alineadores invisibles nunca usados, con n=10 para análisis de rugosidad y n=12 para citotoxicidad (con un power del 80%). Para el análisis de rugosidad, cada grupo se sumergió en una sustancia, a saber: gluconato de clorhexidina, hipoclorito de sodio, perborato de sodio, ácido ortofosfórico y solución salina (control). Las inmersiones duraron 20 minutos, excepto el ácido ortofosfórico que se cepilló durante 15 segundos y se lavó con agua corriente (según las instrucciones del fabricante). Las muestras se analizaron 7 y 15 días después, utilizando un perfilómetro óptico digital. Se evaluó la citotoxicidad sobre queratinocitos humanos (HaCaT), sometidos al contacto con el alineador sin impregnación de ninguna sustancia. Las células se sometieron a la prueba de viabilidad celular (MTT). El diseño estadístico se obtuvo por el método ANOVA, complementado por Tukey (p<0.05%). Resultados. El linaje HaCaT obtuvo una reducción del 48.8% en la viabilidad después del contacto con Invisalign durante 24 horas, la rugosidad evaluada en 7 días tuvo el hipoclorito y el ácido ortofosfórico similar y a los 15 días los grupos mostraron rugosidad similar. Conclusiones. Invisalign no demostró citotoxicidad en el linaje HaCaT y no hay diferencia en la rugosidad con el uso continuo de sustancias.

Through case study research, the experiences of three bereaved women between the ages of 35–50, who turned to a specific form of artmaking for the first time in response to a significant loss is ...explored and documented. In each case, the research participant had not engaged in this form of art expression before and had not ever believed she had talent or competence with the chosen medium. Rather, without forethought, specific intention, or external guidance, all of these adults found themselves immersed in, and literally compelled to take part in artmaking following a major loss in their lives. This research demonstrated that: (a) some women with major losses may be inclined to turn to artmaking for comfort and recovery, and (b) through the development of personal imagery in response to grief, greater insight into self is more accessible. The use of symbolic imagery, whether in a poem, song, or image, served to provide a container for unspeakable pain in response to grief. In addition, as evidenced in this study, repeated acts of creation and storytelling in response to the artwork and to others is critical to healing. The storytelling component promoted and enhanced connectedness with others and with self. This process paralleled the current grief theories of Worden (1991), Marris (1992), and Rando (1993), which reinforced the healing components of artmaking. The three case studies employed in this research could provide the general public with anecdotal information regarding the value of artmaking as a tool specifically for healing purposes in the context of grief and bereavement. It is my hope that this work will create a springboard, offering the arts as a means of therapeutic expression for all grieving adults. Demonstrating that adults have discovered the value of the art process in the wake of grief and have found solace as a result may inspire others to emulate the experience.
