Two new luminescent metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), namely {Cd(μ2-CN)1/2(1,4-BDC)(H2O)2(p-tr2Ph)}∙2H2O (1) and Cd2(1,4-BDC)2(H2O)22(p-tr2Ph) (2) (1,4-H2BDC = 1,4-dicarboxybenzene, ...p-tr2Ph = 1,4-phenylene-4,4’-bis(1,2,4-triazole)) have been solvothermally synthesized and characterized. Single-crystal structural analysis reveals that compounds 1 and 2 show 3-fold and 4-fold interpenetrated 3-dimensional framework structures, respectively. Interestingly, 1 and 2 show unique luminescent emissions when they were excited under ultraviolet light with wavelength of 330 nm. For 1, the luminescent emission intensity decreased as the temperature rose. While for 2, the luminescent emission intensity firstly increased as the temperature rose from 80 to 130 K but it decreased when the temperature is above 130 K. In addition, the temperature-dependent luminescent emissions of both compounds show good linearity and reversibility in a wide range of temperatures, suggesting that 1 and 2 can serve as potential thermometers in specific areas.

Frequent outbreaks of dengue are considered to be associated with an increased risk for endemicity of the disease. The occurrence of a large number of indigenous dengue cases in consecutive years ...indicates the possibility of a changing dengue epidemic pattern in Guangdong, China.
To have a clear understanding of the current dengue epidemic, a retrospective study of epidemiological profile, serological response, and virological features of dengue infections from 2005-2011 was conducted. Case data were collected from the National Notifiable Infectious Diseases Reporting Network. Serum samples were collected and prepared for serological verification and etiological confirmation. Incidence, temporal and spatial distribution, and the clinical manifestation of dengue infections were analyzed. Pearson's Chi-Square test was used to compare incidences between different age groups. A seroprevalence survey was implemented in local healthy inhabitants to obtain the overall positive rate for the specific immunoglobulin (Ig) G antibody against dengue virus (DENV).
The overall annual incidence rate was 1.87/100000. A significant difference was found in age-specific incidence (Pearson's Chi-Square value 498.008, P<0.001). Children under 5 years of age had the lowest incidence of 0.28/100000. The vast majority of cases presented with a mild manifestation typical to dengue fever. The overall seroprevalence of dengue IgG antibody in local populations was 2.43% (range 0.28%-5.42%). DENV-1 was the predominant serotype in circulation through the years, while all 4 serotypes were identified in indigenous patients from different outbreak localities since 2009.
A gradual change in the epidemic pattern of dengue infection has been observed in recent years in Guangdong. With the endemic nature of dengue infections, the transition from a monotypic to a multitypic circulation of dengue virus in the last several years will have an important bearing on the prevention and control of dengue in the province and in the neighboring districts.

Maternal immune system tolerance to the semiallogeneic fetus is essential ...for a successful pregnancy; however, the mechanisms underlying this immunotolerance have not been fully elucidated. Here, we demonstrate that myeloid‐derived suppressor cells play an important role in maintaining feto‐maternal tolerance. A significant expansion of granulocytic myeloid‐derived suppressor cells was observed in multiple immune organs and decidual tissues from pregnant mice. Pregnancy‐derived granulocytic myeloid‐derived suppressor cells suppressed T cell responses in a reactive oxygen species‐dependent manner and required direct cell–cell contact. Mechanistic studies showed that progesterone facilitated differentiation and activation of granulocytic myeloid‐derived suppressor cells, mediated through STAT3 signaling. The STAT3 inhibitor JSI‐124 and a specific short hairpin RNA completely abrogated the effects of progesterone on granulocytic myeloid‐derived suppressor cells. More importantly, granulocytic myeloid‐derived suppressor cell depletion dramatically enhanced the abortion rate in normal pregnant mice, whereas adoptive transfer of granulocytic myeloid‐derived suppressor cells clearly reduced the abortion rate in the CBA/J X DBA/2J mouse model of spontaneous abortion. These observations collectively demonstrate that granulocytic myeloid‐derived suppressor cells play an essential role in the maintenance of fetal immunotolerance in mice. Furthermore, our study supports the notion that in addition to their well‐recognized roles under pathologic conditions, myeloid‐derived suppressor cells perform important functions under certain physiologic circumstances.
The model organism Drosophila melanogaster, as a species of Holometabola, undergoes a series of transformations during metamorphosis. To deeply understand its development, it is crucial to study its ...anatomy during the key developmental stages. We describe the anatomical systems of the thorax, including the endoskeleton, musculature, nervous ganglion, and digestive system, from the late pupal stage to the adult stage, based on micro-CT and 3D visualizations. The development of the endoskeleton causes original and insertional changes in muscles. Several muscles change their shape during development in a non-uniform manner with respect to both absolute and relative size; some become longer and broader, while others shorten and become narrower. Muscular shape may vary during development. The number of muscular bundles also increases or decreases. Growing muscles are probably anchored by the tissues in the stroma. Some muscles and tendons are absent in the adult stage, possibly due to the hardened sclerites. Nearly all flight muscles are present by the third day of the pupal stage, which may be due to the presence of more myofibers with enough mitochondria to support flight power. There are sexual differences in the same developmental period. In contrast to the endodermal digestive system, the functions of most thoracic muscles change in the development from the larva to the adult in order to support more complex locomotion under the control of a more structured ventral nerve cord based on the serial homology proposed herein.
Extracellular amyloid beta (Aβ) plaques are main pathological feature of Alzheimer's disease. However, the specific type of neurons that produce Aβ peptides in the initial stage of Alzheimer's ...disease are unknown. In this study, we found that 5-hydroxytryptamin receptor 3A subunit (HTR3A) was highly expressed in the brain tissue of transgenic amyloid precursor protein and presenilin-1 mice (an Alzheimer's disease model) and patients with Alzheimer's disease. To investigate whether HTR3A-positive interneurons are associated with the production of Aβ plaques, we performed double immunostaining and found that HTR3A-positive interneurons were clustered around Aβ plaques in the mouse model. Some amyloid precursor protein-positive or β-site amyloid precursor protein cleaving enzyme-1-positive neurites near Aβ plaques were co-localized with HTR3A interneurons. These results suggest that HTR3A -positive interneurons may partially contribute to the generation of Aβ peptides. We treated 5.0-5.5-month-old model mice with tropisetron, a HTR3 antagonist, for 8 consecutive weeks. We found that the cognitive deficit of mice was partially reversed, Aβ plaques and neuroinflammation were remarkably reduced, the expression of HTR3 was remarkably decreased and the calcineurin/nuclear factor of activated T-cell 4 signaling pathway was inhibited in treated model mice. These findings suggest that HTR3A interneurons partly contribute to generation of Aβ peptide at the initial stage of Alzheimer's disease and inhibiting HTR3 partly reverses the pathological changes of Alzheimer's disease.
Podophyllotoxin (PPT) is a lignan extracted from podophyllum genera and it shows potent antitumor activity since it could effectively inhibit the assembly of microtubule in tumor cells. However, the ...effects of podophyllotoxin exposure on porcine oocyte quality is still unclear. In present study we tried to examine whether podophyllotoxin exposure was toxic to porcine oocyte maturation. Our results showed that podophyllotoxin exposure inhibited porcine oocyte maturation, showing with the failure of polar body extrusion, and the inhibitory effects of podophyllotoxin on porcine oocytes was dose-depended. Moreover, the meiotic spindle formation was disturbed and the chromosomes were misaligned in the podophyllotoxin-treated porcine oocytes. However, there was no different expression for p-MAPK and ace-tubulin between the control and podophyllotoxin treatment group. In addition, after 0.01 μM podophyllotoxin treatment, the intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels and the Annexin-V signal at MI stage significantly increased compared to the control group, indicating the occurrence of oxidative stress and early apoptosis. Taken together, our results suggested that the toxic effects of podophyllotoxin exposure on porcine oocyte maturation might be through its effects on spindle formation and the induction of oxidative stress-mediated early apoptosis.

Recognition of histones by epigenetic readers is a fundamental mechanism for the regulation of chromatin and transcription. Most reader modules target specific post-translational modifications on ...histones. Here, we report the identification of a reader of histone H3, the ZZ-type zinc finger (ZZ) domain of ZZZ3, a subunit of the Ada-two-A-containing (ATAC) histone acetyltransferase complex. The solution NMR structure of the ZZ in complex with the H3 peptide reveals a unique binding mechanism involving caging of the N-terminal Alanine 1 of histone H3 in an acidic cavity of the ZZ domain, indicating a specific recognition of H3 versus other histones. Depletion of ZZZ3 or disruption of the ZZ-H3 interaction dampens ATAC-dependent promoter histone H3K9 acetylation and target gene expression. Overall, our study identifies the ZZ domain of ZZZ3 as a histone H3 reader that is required for the ATAC complex-mediated maintenance of histone acetylation and gene activation.
Postoperative delirium (POD) is a common postoperative complication in elderly patients, especially those undergoing cardiac surgery, which seriously affects the short- and long-term prognosis of ...patients. Early identification of risk factors for the development of POD can help improve the perioperative management of surgical patients. In the present study, five machine learning models were developed to predict patients at high risk of delirium after cardiac surgery and their performance was compared.
A total of 367 patients who underwent cardiac surgery were retrospectively included in this study. Using single-factor analysis, 21 risk factors for POD were selected for inclusion in machine learning. The dataset was divided using 10-fold cross-validation for model training and testing. Five machine learning models (random forest (RF), support vector machine (SVM), radial based kernel neural network (RBFNN), K-nearest neighbour (KNN), and Kernel ridge regression (KRR)) were compared using area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC‐ROC), accuracy (ACC), sensitivity (SN), specificity (SPE), and Matthews coefficient (MCC).
Among 367 patients, 105 patients developed POD, the incidence of delirium was 28.6 %. Among the five ML models, RF had the best performance in ACC (87.99 %), SN (69.27 %), SPE (95.38 %), MCC (70.00 %) and AUC (0.9202), which was far superior to the other four models.
Delirium is common in patients after cardiac surgery. This analysis confirms the importance of the computational ML models in predicting the occurrence of delirium after cardiac surgery, especially the outstanding performance of the RF model, which has practical clinical applications for early identification of patients at risk of developing POD.
Most existing studies comparing the efficiency of sonic irrigation (SI) and conventional needle irrigation (CNI) in increasing the penetration of sealers into dentine tubules are controversial; and ...this study aimed to determine whether the use of SI can lead to greater sealing ability than CNI, during the root canal treatment.
The EMBASE, PubMed, and Cochrane Library databases were used to find confocal laser scanning microscopy studies evaluating percentage and maximum depth of sealer penetration following the use of SI or CNI in mature permanent teeth until October 2022. The critical estimative checklist of randomized controlled trials of the standardized Joanna Briggs Institute was adopted to independently score the quality of each study. The random-effect model for meta-analysis was used to analyse for each canal segment (apical, middle, coronal). The results are shown in the forest plots as weighted mean differences (WMDs) with 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs).
Ninety-seven articles were included in the preliminary screening, and nine of them were included in this study. Eight studies were included in the meta-analysis.The meta-analysis exhibited great increases in the coronal (WMD: 8.09, 95% CI 2.78-13.40/WMD: 165.32, 95% CI 128.85-201.80), and middle segments (WMD: 8.81, 95% CI 5.76-11.87/WMD: 132.98, 95% CI 68.71-197.25) for the percentage and maximum depth of sealer penetration, respectively. The percentage of sealer penetration in the apical thirds region was nonsignificant (WMD: 4.73, 95% CI - 2.34-11.80). However, the maximum depth of sealer penetration in the apical thirds region was significant (WMD: 121.46, 95% CI 86.55-156.38). Chi-squared analysis revealed heterogeneity scores of 0.0-70.0% and 44.0-90.0% for the percentage and maximum depth of sealer penetration, respectively.
This review verified that SI significantly improves tubular dentin sealer penetration in most areas of the root canal; thus, SI may lead to better filling efficiency and anti-reinfection effects than CNI during and after the root canal therapy. Nevertheless, a large heterogeneity in the current data comparing the irrigation efficiency of SI versus CNI in the apical third of the root canal was found, implying the necessity to standardize root canal irrigation procedures and obtain more accurate results in this area.

This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to report the evaluation of the prevalence and risk of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) among adult psoriatic patients in a systematic review ...and meta-analysis.
A comprehensive search was conducted across 4 databases of PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science to collect relevant studies until November 30, 2023, without any restrictions for finding observational studies. The comprehensive meta-analysis version 3.0 software was used to calculate effect sizes, showing the event rate (ER), odds ratio (OR), and a 95% confidence interval (CI) to evaluate NAFLD risk or prevalence in psoriatic patients and controls or psoriatic patients alone. The quality scoring was performed by 1 author based on the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale tool. Publication bias, meta-regression analysis, and sensitivity analyses were performed. Additionally, Trial Sequential Analysis (TSA) was performed using TSA software.
A total of 581 records were identified among the databases and electronic sources. At last, 41 studies involving 607,781 individuals were included in the meta-analysis. The pooled ER of NAFLD among psoriatic patients was 29.5% (95%CI: 19.6%-41.7%) and I2 = 99.79%. The pooled OR of NAFLD in psoriatic patients compared to controls was 1.685 (95%CI: 1.382-2.055; P < .001) and I2 = 87.96%.
The study found a significant link between psoriasis and NAFLD, with psoriatic patients having a higher chance of developing NAFLD compared to the controls. The study calls for regular NAFLD screening in psoriatic patients to prevent liver complications.
