The purpose of this study is to investigate whether low-dose spiral chest CT scan can replace standard-dose CT scan in detecting pulmonary metastases for patients with gestational trophoblastic tumor ...(GTT).
Totally, 34 GTT patients underwent 56 chest CT scans for the assessment of pulmonary metastasis. All patients received CT examination both at standard-dose (120 KV, 150 mAs, pitch 1, and a standard reconstruction algorithm) and low-dose CT (120 KV, 40 mAs, pitch 2, and a bone reconstruction algorithm) simultaneously each time. The images were interpreted by two radiologists independently. A metastasis by CT image was defined as a nodule within lung parenchyma that could not be attributed to a pulmonary vessel. The number of lesions detected at each dose protocol was recorded. The size of each lesion was measured and categorized as < 5 mm, 5 - 10 mm or > or = 10 mm. The differences in detection of the lesions between the standard- and low-dose CT protocols were compared using Wilconxon signed rank test.

Osteosarcoma is the most common type of bone cancer. In the present study, by way of PCR-based microarrays, we found that TUT1, a nucleotidyl transferase, was significantly downregulated in ...osteosarcoma, compared with adjacent normal tissues. In the current study, we performed PCR-based microarrays using the cDNA prepared from osteosarcoma and adjacent normal tissues. The enforced expression of TUT1 was able to inhibit cell proliferation in U2OS and MG63 cells, while its knockdown using small interfering RNA (siRNA) oligos promoted cell proliferation. At the molecular level, we found that TUT1 could inhibit the expression levels of PPARgamma and SREBP-1c, two key regulators in lipogenesis, through upregulation of microRNA-24 and microRNA-29a. Therefore, our results suggest that TUT1 may act as a tumor suppressor for osteosarcoma, which might provide a novel mechanism for the tumor development.
To improve the diagnosis and treatment of infective endocarditis (IE) by exploring its causes, pathogenic microorganism and clinical characteristics.
The clinical data of 120 IE patients treated in ...Peking Union Medical College Hospital from October 1997 to September 2007 were analyzed retrospectively.
Of the 120 consecutive cases diagnosed as IE according to the Duke's new criteria, 79 were male and 41 female with a average age of (43.2 +/- 16.7) years old. Twelve cases were prosthetic valve endocarditis (PVE) and 108 cases native valve endocarditis (NVE) and there were no previously known heart diseases in 29 of the cases. Seventy-nine of the 108 (73.1%) NVE patients had basic cardiac abnormalities before IE diagnosis, such as congenital cardiovascular disease (30 cases), idiopathic mitral valve prolapse (23 cases) and rheumatic heart disease (11 cases). Fever (100.0%), anemia (54.2%) and embolism (48.3%) were the most common clinical manifestations in the IE development. Of the 83 patients who had a positiv
Preliminary experiments indicated that target cells were resistant to glucocorticoid (GC) after pathological stress. This study was designed to investigate the alterations in plasma corticosterone ...level and GC receptor (GR) of liver cytosols, to assess the relative inflammatory cytokines contribution to GC resistant, and to observe the action of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) on the potential implications of glucocorticord regulatory effects in burned rats. Male Wistar rats (weight range, 180–200
g) received a 35% total body surface area immersion scald and were randomly divided to receive either tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), polyclonal antibody (pAb), α-MSH, Ac-D-Lys-L-Pro-D-Val (KPV peptide), or saline (control). The binding capacity (Rt) of the steroid-binding sites was measured by radioligand binding assay, using

dexamethasone as the ligand. We examined plasma levels of IL-1β, TNFα, IL-10, and corticosterone following scald challenge in rats. The Rt of GR (208.45±30.78
fmol/mg of protein) in hepatic cytosol in rats, 12
h later the scald was significantly lower than that (306.71±27.96
fmol/mg of protein) of the control group (
P<0.01). The injections of anti-rat TNFα (257.80±12.82
fmol/mg of protein), IL-1β antibody (254.46±21.21
fmol/mg of protein), α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (278.32±7.76
fmol/mg of protein) and KPV peptide (263.46±17.46
fmol/mg of protein) might prevent the Rt of GR from decreasing in hepatic cytosols of rats with scald, respectively (all of
P<0.05) in vivo. Scald-induced robust increases in plasma IL-1β (214.08±27.25
pg/ml), TNFα (111.18±23.97
pg/ml), IL-10 (177.50±15.79
pg/ml) and corticosterone (2680±443.23
ng/ml) levels after 12
h. The administration of TNFα, IL-1β pAb, α-MSH and KPV might attenuate these increases. These studies suggest that pro-inflammatory cytokines are involved in downregulation of GRs and thus α-MSH and KPV might increase the level of GR in rats with immersion scald.
According to the market survey and production measurement of Dafang County Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Bureau, the production of carrot reached 21 000 kg/ha, with income of 24 000 yuan/ha; the ...yield of white radish was 60 000 kg/ha, with income of 25 500 yuan/ha; the yield of cabbage was 45 000 kg/ha, with income of 36 000 yuan/ha; the yield of garlic sprout reached 2 250 kg/ha, with income of 18 000 yuan/ha; and the yield of garlic cloves was 4 500 kg/ha, with income of 15 750 yuan/ha. 3.2.4 Grassland + tourism. ...these restrict the application of agricultural machinery- Secondly, the farming system in the region is complex and diverse, which has brought certain difficulties to the development and promotion of agricultural machinery- In addition, factors such as the underdeveloped rural economy and the low quality of rural left-behind labor force have also brought varying degrees of influence on the application of mechanization. 3.3.2 Grassland agriculture having specialized and diversified requirements for agricultural machinery. ...influenced by traditional thought of generally adhering to the principle of not fighting for land with grain, forage grass crops are usually planted on hillsides , low-yield fields and autumn and winter idle fields, making mechanization application more difficult than major grain crops and economic crops. The same crop is required to be harvested in batches at diferent times for the needs of diferent uses such as green fodder and silage. ...factors such as diferent forage grass varieties, planting environments and harvesting periods have placed diferent special requirements on mechanization application, and also added difficulties for mechanization application. 3.3.3 Low mechanization performance of pasture and forage crops restricting the application of machinery- In terms of current performance of pasture machinery in China, compared with foreign developed countries, China's pasture machinery lacks uniform standards and complete series, most of which are single models.
In order to better promote the development of grassland husbandry in the Bijie experimental area and promote industrial poverty alleviation and rural revitalization strategies, the development status ...of grassland agriculture in developed countries (USA, Netherlands and France) and China is summarized. By learning from the successful experience of grassland agricultural development at home and abroad, combined with the survey results of grassland agriculture in Dafang County of Bijie experimental area, the development of grassland agriculture in Dafang County of Bijie experimental area is analyzed, and corresponding development strategies are put forward.
Objective:To establish rabbit model of restenosis after carotid endartereclomy surgery, and to study tissue inflammatory cytokines(TNF-α,IL-61 involved in restenosis. Methods:A total of 32 rabbits were ...randomly divided into two groups:model group and control group. The right common carotid artery in rabbits was damaged by carotid endar terectomy in model group. The tissues were harvested at different time points respectively, the pathological changes of the vascular wall after operation were observed at different time points. The changes of expression of tissue vascular wall inflammatory cytokines(TNF-α.IL-6)at different lime points after the surgery was observed by RT-PCR,and the changes of serum inflammatory cytokines(TNT-α,IL-6)were detected by F.I.1SA.Results:The new intima appeared after 7 days of the injury and reached the peak on 28 d which is uneven and significantly thicker than the control group(P<0.01).The tissue inflammatory cytokines(TNF-α,IL-6)were significantlv increased after the rabbit common carotid artery injury, which was significant difference compared with normal control group(P<0.05).Conclusions:The tissue inflammatory factors significantly increase after the rabbit carotid artery injury, which suggests the mutual concurrent effects of inflammatory cytokines can result in the proliferation of vascular restenosis.

The emphasis of Taiwan’s infrastructure development has shifted from construction to the maintenance of existing facilities. However, economic recession and changes to ...population structures have resulted in tighter budgets coinciding with increased social spending, thus limiting the availability of maintenance funds. In addition, a 2014 gas main explosion in downtown Kaohsiung revealed a striking lack of effective infrastructure management, with crucial infrastructure falling into disrepair due to inefficient maintenance. Therefore, despite financial limitations, an effective infrastructure maintenance system must be established to ensure the proper maintenance of aging infrastructure.
Infrastructure Asset Accounting with valuation is a model for monitoring infrastructure maintenance work through examining valuation differences to present real infrastructure conditions. In this way, infrastructure management agencies can formulate maintenance plans and budgets in accordance with infras
The breaking of immune tolerance against angiogenesis-associated molecules should be a useful approach for cancer therapy by active immunity. We used chicken integrin β3 as a model antigen to explore ...the feasibility of immunogene therapy of the tumors with a vaccine based on a single xenogeneic homologous gene, targeting the molecules associated with angiogenesis. To test this concept we constructed a plasmid DNA encoding the ligand-binding domain of chicken integrin β3 (P-BD-C) and control vectors. We found that immunogene therapy of tumors with a vaccine based on the ligand-binding domain of chicken integrin β3 (P-BD-C) was effective in both protective and therapeutic anti-tumor immunity in several tumor models in mice. Autoantibodies against integrin β3 in sera of mice immunized with the ligand-binding domain of chicken integrin β3 could be found by Western blot analysis and ELISA assay. The purified immunoglobulins were effective in the inhibition of endothelial cell proliferation in vitro, and in anti-tumor activity as well as in the inhibition of angiogenesis by adoptive transfer in vivo. The anti-tumor activity and the production of integrin β3-specific autoantibodies (manifested by significantly elevated Ig G1 and Ig G2b) could be abrogated by the depletion of CD4+ T lymphocytes. These observations may provide a vaccine strategy for cancer therapy through the induction of the autoimmunity against the molecules associated with tumor growth in a cross-reaction with a single xenogeneic homologous gene and may be of importance in the further exploration of the applications of other xenogeneic homologous genes identified in human and other animal genome sequence projects in cancer therapy.
