Iron–nitrogen–carbon (Fe–N–C) catalysts are considered as the most promising nonprecious metal catalysts for oxygen reduction reactions (ORRs). Their synthesis generally involves complex pyrolysis ...reactions at high temperature, making it difficult to optimize their composition, pore structure, and active sites. This study reports a simple synthesis strategy by reacting preformed nitrogen‐doped carbon scaffolds with iron pentacarbonyl, a liquid precursor that can effectively form active sites with the nitrogen sites, enabling more effective control of the catalyst. The resultant catalyst possesses a well‐defined mesoporous structure, a high surface area, and optimized active sites. The catalysts exhibit high ORR activity comparable to that of Pt/C catalyst (40% Pt loading) in alkaline media, with excellent stability and methanol tolerance. The synthetic strategy can be extended to synthesize other metal–N–C catalysts.
A novel fabrication strategy for metal–N–C electrocatalysts based on the post metal decoration of mesoporous nitrogen spheres is developed. Such synthetic method enables the simple formation of iron‐containing active sites on preformed nitrogen‐doped carbon host. The good oxygen reduction reaction performance of the prepared Iron/nitrogen‐doped mesoporous carbon catalyst is attributed to the synergistic effect between Fe–Nx sites and surface‐oxidized Fe nanoparticles.
This paper introduces an innovative differential sampling technique for calibrating AC waveforms, leveraging a commercially available 16-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC) as the reference ...standard. The novelty of this approach lies in its enhanced stability over traditional direct sampling methods, especially as the frequency of the AC waveform increases. Notably, this technique provides a cost-effective sampler alternative to the differential sampling methods that rely on a programmable Josephson voltage standard (PJVS). A critical aspect of this methodology is the precise measurement of the DAC's output voltage, for which a static measurement strategy is adopted to utilize the exceptional linearity and transfer accuracy of the Keysight 3458A (Santa Rosa, CA, USA) in its standard DCV mode. The differential sampling method has demonstrated good accuracy, achieving a near 1 µV/V agreement with a pulse-driven AC Josephson voltage standard (ACJVS) across a 40 Hz to 200 Hz frequency range. The method attained an expanded uncertainty (
= 2) of 1 part in 10
while measuring a 0.707107 V
sine wave at 50 Hz, showcasing its efficacy in precise AC waveform calibration.
Chemotherapy is one of the major systemic treatments for cancer, in which the drug release kinetics is a key factor for drug delivery. In the present work, a versatile fluorescence-based real-time ...monitoring system for intracellular drug release has been developed. First, two kinds of star-conjugated copolymers with different connections (e.g., pH-responsive acylhydrazone and stable ether) between a hyperbranched conjugated polymer (HCP) core and many linear poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) arms were synthesized. Owing to the amphiphilic three-dimensional architecture, the star-conjugated copolymers could self-assemble into multimicelle aggregates from unimolecular micelles with excellent emission performance in the aqueous medium. When doxorubicin (DOX) as a model drug was encapsulated into copolymer micelles, the emission of star-conjugated copolymer and DOX was quenched. In vitro biological studies revealed that fluorescent intensities of both star-conjugated copolymer and DOX were activated when the drug was released from copolymeric micelles, resulting in the enhanced cellular proliferation inhibition against cancer cells. Importantly, pH-responsive feature of the star-conjugated copolymer with acylhydrazone linkage exhibited accelerated DOX release at a mildly acidic environment, because of the fast breakage of acylhydrazone in endosome or lysosome of tumor cells. Such fluorescent star-conjugated copolymers may open up new perspectives to real-time study of drug release kinetics of polymeric drug delivery systems for cancer therapy.
Oscillations, commonly known as a universal, propagative, and intricate event in the new power system, often give rise to generator tripping and load shedding, not only adversely affecting the power ...flow limit and the power angle stability but also posing threats to the lines of defense for stability and protection. Traditionally, emphasis has been laid on post-fault oscillation management, an emergency measure to deal with the impact and damage that have already affected the power grid. As such, this paper focuses on an oscillation prediction technique to detect oscillation energy early and intervene proactively to prevent further faults. This technique effectively lessens the damage caused by impacts and disconnects to the power grid. Firstly, this paper proposes the concept of disturbance power density and establishes the correlation between disturbance energy and the time domain, thereby exploring a method for evaluating the pattern of electrical quantities before power system oscillation. Secondly, it speeds up the time it takes to detect faults by catching nuances of voltage-current phase angle and impedance. Lastly, it puts forward a technique to cope with the intricacy and variety of power grid equipment using the convolutional neural network (CNN). This technique incorporates an integrated attention mechanism within a one-dimensional CNN model to capture the implicit mapping between voltage, active power, and reactive power at any time in the power system. This enables the model to self-learn multi-device characteristics and enhances the possibility of using theory in practical ways. Moreover, practical case studies also show that the prediction technique proposed in this paper can effectively issue warnings eight minutes before the occurrence of oscillation.

A novel kind of redox-responsive polymeric drug delivery system has been designed and prepared successfully through the coupling of the multithiol branched polymers and thiol-containing drugs. The ...branched poly((S-(4-vinyl) benzyl S'-propyltrithiocarbonate)-co-(poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate)) (poly(VBPT-co-PEGMA)) was synthesized by one-pot reaction via reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) copolymerization. Subsequently, the hydrophobic thiol-containing anticancer drug 6-mercaptopurine (MP) was conjugated to poly(VBPT-co-PEGMA) by thiol-disulfide exchange reaction, resulting in the formation of poly(VBPT-co-PEGMA)-S-S-MP conjugate. Due to its amphiphilicity, poly(VBPT-co-PEGMA)-S-S-MP conjugate self-assembled into amphiphilic micelles in aqueous solution. Under a reductive environment, the disassembly of polymeric micelles resulted in the MP release. Flow cytometry and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) measurements demonstrated that the poly(VBPT-co-PEGMA)-S-S-MP micelles could be taken up by Raji cells (a Burkitt lymphoma cell line). The viability of the Raji cells incubated with the glutathione (GSH) mediated poly(VBPT-co-PEGMA)-S-S-MP micelles was investigated by Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay. The experimental results showed that the viability of the glutathione monoester (GSH-OEt) pretreated cells was lower than that without pretreatment, while the viability of the buthionine sulfoximine (BSO) pretreated cells was higher than that without pretreatment. The poly(VBPT-co-PEGMA)-S-S-MP micelles could induce the apoptosis of Raji cells, and the apoptosis behavior was dose-dependent. This redox-responsive polymer-drug conjugate provides a promising platform for the delivery of thiol-containing biological molecules.
Abstract
The rapid development of space-time-coding metasurfaces (STCMs) offers a new avenue to manipulate spatial electromagnetic beams, waveforms, and frequency spectra simultaneously with high ...efficiency. To date, most studies are primarily focused on harmonic generations and independent controls of finite-order harmonics and their spatial waves, but the manipulations of continuously temporal waveforms that include much rich frequency spectral components are still limited in both theory and experiment based on STCM. Here, we propose a theoretical framework and method to generate frequency-modulated continuous waves (FMCWs) and control their spatial propagation behaviors simultaneously via a novel STCM with nonlinearly periodic phases. Since the carrier frequency of FMCW changes with time rapidly, we can produce customized time-varying reflection phases at will by the required FMCW under the illumination of a monochromatic wave. More importantly, the propagation directions of the time-varying beams can be controlled by encoding the metasurface with different initial phase gradients. A programmable STCM prototype with a full-phase range is designed and fabricated to realize reprogrammable FMCW functions, and experimental results show good agreement with the theoretical analyses.
