Scientific studies in criminology mainly neglect the criminality of women, especially the perspective of women prisoners. The aim of qualitative research was to examine the experience of imprisonment ...and institutional treatment for female prisoners. Data were collected using a semi-structured interview with 10 female prisoners in female penitentiary in Croatia. Research questions focused on the experience of stay in prison, treatment, perceived changes, suggestions for treatment improvement. Data were processed with inductive thematic analysis. Five topics have been separated: Expectations before coming to penitentiary, Experience of stay in penitentiary, Experience of treatment, Perception of personal changes, and Suggestions to improve the institutional treatment. It is necessary to continuously evaluate the treatment programs implemented in correctional institutions to determine their effectiveness, therefore the perspective of female prisoners can be an important criterion for the the creation of measures and policies pursued by the state regarding correctional institutions.
Znanstvena istraživanja u području kriminologije uglavnom zanemaruju kriminalitet žena, naročito perspektivu zatvorenica. Cilj kvalitativnog istraživanja bio je ispitati doživljaj boravka u kaznionici i institucionalnog tretmana zatvorenica. Podaci su prikupljeni koristeći metodu polustrukturiranog intervjua provedenog s deset zatvorenica u Kaznionici za žene u Požegi. Istraživačka pitanja usmjerena su na doživljaj boravka u kaznionici, tretmana, percipiranih osobnih promjena i prijedloga za unaprjeđenje tretmana. Podaci su obrađeni induktivnom tematskom analizom. Izdvojeno je pet tema: očekivanja prije dolaska u kaznionicu, doživljaj boravka u kaznionici, doživljaj tretmana, percepcija osobnih promjena i prijedlozi za unaprjeđenje institucionalnog tretmana. Nužno je kontinuirano provoditi evaluacije tretmanskih programa u kaznionicama da bi se utvrdila njihova efikasnost, a perspektiva zatvorenica pri tome može biti značajan kriterij za osmišljavanje mjera i politika koje provodi država u zatvorskome sustavu.
Djeca čiji su roditelji u zatvoru predstavljaju posebno ranjivu skupinu. U radu se daje pregled zakonima zajamčenih prava djece i poteškoća u prepoznavanju najboljeg interesa djeteta i poštovanju ...prava djeteta čiji je roditelj u zatvoru. Također, daju se i neki primjeri dobre prakse u svijetu. Prava djece čiji su roditelji u zatvoru zajamčena su Konvencijom o pravima djeteta, Ustavom RH, Obiteljskim zakonom, Zakonom o zabrani diskriminacije, Zakonom o izvršenju kazne zatvora i mnogim drugim propisima i aktima na međunarodnoj i na nacionalnoj razini. U praksi, prava koja su zakonski zajamčena djeci zatvorenika ne ostvaruju se i krše se. To se prije svega događa zbog nedovoljne osviještenosti stručnjaka i javnosti o ovoj skupini djece i nedovoljne prepoznatosti ove djece kako na međunarodnoj tako i na regionalnim razinama, nedovoljnog znanja o utjecaju kazne zatvora roditelja na dijete i nedovoljnoj senzibiliziranosti unutar različitih sustava (prvenstveno zatvorskog) za potrebe i prava ove djece. U posljednjih desetak godina ipak se primjećuju pomaci i promjene glede znanja o potrebama djece čiji su roditelji u zatvoru, no to još uvijek nije dovoljno. Zaključno, temeljem predstavljenih nalaza i dosadašnjih iskustava, predložene su smjernice za unapređenje zaštite prava i interesa djece čiji su roditelji na izdržavanju kazne zatvora, kako na razini socijalne politike, tako i na razini neposrednog rada stručnjaka koji se unutar različitih resora i struka bave ovom skupinom djece.
The aim of this paper is to evaluate the processes and outcomes associated with a parent support program called “School for Parents” based on the perspective of parent attendees. The study was ...conducted using a sample of 15 parents who attended the “School for Parents” program. Data was collected from participants using interviews and analysed using the framework analysis method. Our results show that the views or perceptions of parents changed with changes in their own parental competencies. We also highlight the benefits and satisfaction that comes with participating in the group, as well as some negative aspects of participation. Participants reported that they experienced improvements in the quality of the parent-child relationship, changes in the comprehension of the child, as well as personal changes in themselves. This study emphasises the practical implications for the need to provide professional support to parents, as well as raises questions that require further research.
Cilj je ovog rada davanje uvida u neke aspekte pohadanja Skole za roditelje, tocnije, prikazat ce se procesna evaluacija i evaluacija ishoda navedenog programa. Istrazivanje je provedeno na uzorku od ...15 sudionika polaznika programa Skole za roditelje te je koristena metoda intervjua, a u koncipiranju istrazivackih pitanja i analizi rezultata koristila se metoda analize okvira. Rezultati istrazivanja pokazali su kako sudionici iskazuju iskustvo poboljsanja roditeljskih kompetencija, dobiti od grupnog rada te zadovoljstvo sudjelovanjem u programu, ali i neke negativne aspekte sudjelovanja. Takoder sudionici percipiraju poboljsanje odnosa roditelj--dijete te promjene u dozivljavanju djeteta, kao i svoje osobne promjene. Ovaj rad takoder daje prakticne implikacije za aktualno i buduce pruzanje strucne pomoci roditeljima te otvara nova istrazivacka pitanja. Kljucne rijeci: djeca ciji su roditelji u zatvoru, najbolji interesi djeteta, prava djece, nacionalna politika, pravosude. Children of imprisoned parents represent an especially vulnerable group. The paper will display the data about the rights of the children which are guaranteed by law and the difficulties in recognizing and respecting the best interest of the child and the rights of the child whose parents are in prison. Additionally, some examples of the good practice in the world will be displayed. The rights of the children of imprisoned parents are guaranteed by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Constitution of the Republic of Croatia, Family Law, The Law on Prohibition of Discrimination, Law on Imprisonment and many other documents on the international and the national level. In practice, the rights which are guaranteed to the children by the law are not realized and are often violated. This is happening first of all because of the lack of awareness about these children and the lack of their recognition on the international and regional levels, furthermore because of the lack of knowledge about the implications of parental imprisonment on the child and because of the lack of sensibility among different systems (mostly the prison system) for the needs and rights of children of imprisoned parents. During the last ten years, some moves and changes have been made with regard to the knowledge about the needs of the children whose parents are in prison, but this is still not enough. In the end, some suggestions are made on the level of national policy and on the level of different systems and professionals who get in touch with the children of imprisoned parents. Provedba istraživanja sa zatvorenicama općenito je otežana zbog posebnoga položaja i uvjeta u kojima se nalaze, a istraživanja o percepciji njihove budućnosti vrlo je malo. Cilj je ovoga rada ...ispitati percepciju budućnosti i očekivanja zatvorenica u budućnosti sa svrhom dobivanja uvida i predlaganja nekih specifičnih metoda rada na sebi za vrijeme boravka na izdržavanju kazne. Provedeno je kvalitativno istraživanje u kojemu su se podatci prikupljali putem polustrukturiranih intervjua. U istraživanju je sudjelovalo devet zatvorenica koje su se u trenutku provedbe istraživanja nalazile na izdržavanju kazne zatvora u kaznionici. Podatci su obrađeni putem tematske analize sadržaja. Rezultati su pokazali da zatvorenice svoju budućnost uglavnom vide pozitivno, ali su i svjesne određenih poteškoća i izazova s kojima će se morati suočiti nakon otpusta. Zatvorenice budućnost planiraju provesti u okruženju obitelji i brizi za djecu te se nadaju boljem funkcioniranju obitelji u budućnosti. Izazovom smatraju nadoknadu vremena koje su provele u kaznionici, rješavanje pitanja skrbništva nad maloljetnom djecom i pronalazak posla zbog moguće osude okoline i predrasuda prema bivšim zatvorenicama. Također, za pojedine zatvorenice izazov je i mogućnost recidiva, u čemu će biti ključan rad na sebi i želja za promjenom.
Conducting research among female prison population is generally difficult given the specific position of these women and the accompanying conditions. In addition, very few studies have addressed their perceptions of the future. The aim of this paper is to examine perceptions and expectations of the future among female prisoners to gain insight in the matter and propose specific methods of self-improvement during the execution of prison sentence. Qualitative research based on semi-structured interviews for data collection has been carried out. Nine female prisoners serving prison sentence in a penitentiary took part in the research. The data was processed by using the content analysis. The findings have shown that, in general, female prisoners demonstrated positive outlook for the future, although they were aware of the difficulties and challenges they had to face upon release. Female prisoners were planning to spend time with family members, looking after their children. They also hoped for improved family functioning. In respect of challenges, they referred to the problems of making up for the time spent in the penitentiary, addressing the issue of child custody and finding a job in light of disapproval of former female prisoners and prejudice against them. Furthermore, in case of some female prisoners, the possibility of reoffending represented a challenge. In that sense, self-improvement and desire for change were of crucial importance.
THE BENEFITS OF SERVICE LEARNING FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF FUTURE SOCIAL WORKERS Service learning (DKU) is an innovative method based on experiential learning whose implementation in the educational ...system can achieve numerous benefits for the academic and social community. The aim of the research presented by this paper was to examine the perceived profits of DKU among social work students (N = 23) due to the pilot implementation of the elective DKU course in the first year of study. Three research questions were asked related to the student’s perception of gains from participation in DKU projects for various actors in the project, self-assessment of satisfaction with certain elements of the DKU and proposals for improving the course. Research questions were elaborated in a survey applied upon completion of the course; answers to open-type questions were processed using the method of qualitative content analysis, and answers to closed-type questions by quantitative analysis of data. According to the results, students primarily recognize the numerous profits of DKU for themselves on a personal and professional level, but they also perceive a range of profits for users, associations and the wider community. Furthermore, students are very satisfied with the different elements of DKU and believe that it has enabled them to get to know the practice of social work better. And, finally, students propose (even) more emphasis on the preparation and design of projects and on working in the association / community, as well as more reflections orally. The results speak in favor of increasing quotas in the DKU course and/or the implementation of DKU on several courses at the beginning of the study. Zbog velike zastupljenosti NEET (engl. Not in Education, Employment, or Training)
populacije Europska je unija 2013. godine izradila operativni plan smanjivanja njenog udjela
za period 2014. – 2020. ...godine. U Hrvatskoj su također planirane mjere i sredstva Europskog
socijalnog fonda trebala osigurati različite resurse na državnoj i lokalnoj razini za realizaciju
istog cilja. Grad Zagreb u okviru ulaganja u socijalnu politiku razvija brojne usluge i programe,
osobito za mlade u nepovoljnom položaju. Ovo kvalitativno istraživanje usmjereno je na
stjecanje uvida u iskustva stručnjaka i pripadnika NEET populacije o uslugama i programima
usmjerenih prema NEET populaciji na području Grada Zagreba u svrhu njihove pripreme za
zapošljavanje te na percepciju o mogućim poboljšanjima usluga i prevenciji NEET statusa. U
istraživanju je sudjelovalo 15 stručnjaka koji rade s NEET populacijom i 25 pripadnika NEET
populacije. Rezultati ukazuju na to da stručnjaci prepoznaju velike izazove u radu s NEET
populacijom vezane uz motiviranje mladih na promjenu i na zahtjevne modele rada. Osim
toga, izdvojene su institucionalne manjkavosti poput nedovoljne koordinacije s drugim institucijama,
administrativnih ograničenja i nedovoljne osposobljenosti stručnjaka, što prepoznaju
obje grupe sudionika istraživanja. Mladi naglašavaju da su im neke usluge i informacije koje
dobivaju od stručnjaka nekorisne i zakašnjele, a s druge strane da imaju pozitivna iskustva u
dobivanju stručnih preporuka i osobne podrške. Istraživanje ukazuje na potrebu za sustavnim
ulaganjem u institucije koje rade s NEET populacijom (kadrovi, prostor, informatizacija, koordinacija
institucija) na području Grada Zagreba. Također je naglašena potreba poboljšanja
sadržaja i modela rada programa te promocije i dostupnosti programa podrške NEET populaciji
radi njihovog uključivanja na tržište rada.
Purpose: The aim of this paper is to get an insight into understanding the stigma of disability based on the experience and perception of people with disabilities and professionals who work with ...them. Methods: Qualitative research methods were used with two focus groups: one with people with disabilities (five participants) and other with professionals (seven participants). After data were collected, a qualitative content analysis was made. Results: The results indicated that participants perceived and experienced stigma of disability through intrinsic and extrinsic elements of stigmatization. The intrinsic elements refer to the feeling of being different as a result of negative attitudes, prejudices and stereotypes. The extrinsic elements derive from the relationship of the system towards people with disabilities: discrimination and labelling. Some of the major findings of this research are that the stigma of disability is shown through the inability of the people with disabilities to make their own decisions, the perception of the disability as the main feature of the person, the lack of criteria during education, perceiving disability as a precondition in choosing a partner and parental capability, parents' decision-making about their children's lives, overprotection and stigmatization in education and employment. Stigmatization leads to social exclusion and influences the quality of life. Conclusion: The stigma of disability is manifested through the impossibility of realizing basic human rights, of living life independently and of taking equal part in a local community.

Društveno korisno učenje (DKU) inovativna je metoda bazirana na iskustvenom učenju čijom je implementacijom u obrazovni sustav moguće ostvariti brojne dobrobiti za akademsku i društvenu zajednicu. ...Cilj istraživanja prikazanog ovim radom bio je ispitati percipirane dobiti DKU-a kod studenata socijalnog rada (N = 23) uslijed pilot-provedbe izbornog DKU kolegija na prvoj godini studija. Postavljena su tri istraživačka pitanja vezana uz studentsku percepciju dobitaka od sudjelovanja u projektima DKU-a za različite aktere u projektu, samoprocjenu zadovoljstva pojedinim elementima DKU-a te prijedloge za unaprjeđenje kolegija. Istraživačka pitanja razrađena su u anketi primijenjenoj po završetku kolegija; odgovori na pitanja otvorenog tipa obrađeni su metodom kvalitativne analize sadržaja, a odgovori na pitanja zatvorenog tipa kvantitativnom analizom podataka. Prema rezultatima, studenti prvenstveno prepoznaju brojne dobiti DKU-a za njih same na osobnoj i profesionalnoj razini, ali percipiraju i niz dobiti za korisnike, udruge i širu zajednicu. Nadalje, studenti su jako zadovoljni različitim elementima DKU-a te smatraju da im je omogućilo bolje upoznavanje prakse socijalnog rada. I, konačno, studenti predlažu (još) veći naglasak na pripremi i osmišljavanju projekata te na radu u udruzi/zajednici, kao i više refleksija usmenim putem. Rezultati govore u prilog povećanju kvota na DKU kolegiju i/ili implementaciji DKU-a na više kolegija na početku studija.
