The unique contributions of this method are also discussed.
Fourteen veterans with GWI were interviewed and then invited to represent their experiences in a visual format through a collage graphic elicitation task. Interviews and collage artworks were coded and compared to both verbal and art responses during the graphic elicitation process.
Comparison of the content in the interview responses and collage artwork indicates that the graphic elicitation process resulted in three distinct responses: (1) Synthesis and confirmation of content articulated in the interviews, (2) focus on salient aspects of living with GWI, and (3) revealing previously unarticulated experiences.
This work demonstrates the unique contributions of collage graphic elicitation, including allowing for spontaneity, metaphorical thinking, enriching verbal explication, and uncovering lived experiences and new affective responses. The sample size was too small to make any generalizations, and more research is needed to further validate these initial findings.

This practice paper demonstrates an art therapy session that revealed the internalized monstrous and demonic identities amongst those who have sexually offended. Several of the participants ...represented their shadow-self as: (1) nebulous demonic self-representations, (2) internalized monstrous selves as hurtful or uncontrolled, or (3) a dichotomy of power and helplessness. Making these negative self-images visible during such an art therapy process can inform the initial step toward reconciliation, especially within the transitional space of reintegrating into society post-incarceration. Implications demonstrate the use of metaphorical expression and how such images can address the stigmatized and internalized negative self-perceptions of those who have sexually offended.
This study aimed to investigate the feasibility of facilitating four sessions of art therapy intervention with a primary focus on implementation and acceptability. The exploratory aim was on ...assessing the effect of art therapy on self-reported outcomes on anxiety and mood among five individuals (aged 18+ years) hospitalized for burn injuries and to understand their perceptions of engagement with art therapy. A convergent mixed-methods small N design was adopted wherein both quantitative and qualitative data are gathered and then integrated, and an individual served as his/her own control when assessed before and after art therapy. Anxiety was assessed using Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) Anxiety short-form of the emotional distress bank, and mood was assessed using the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS). There was a statistically significant decrease in anxiety scores and negative mood scale. Positive mood scale scores tended to improve after art therapy though were not statistically significant. Thematic analysis of qualitative data indicates that art therapy improves 1) symptom management, 2) facilitates emotional expression and 3) insight, 4) brings out symbolic and metaphorical representations, and 5) allows tactile and sensory exploration of art media. This study demonstrated that art therapy can be successfully implemented with acute burn patients and can have promising psychosocial benefits. Further research in needed to determine the effectiveness of art therapy with more burn patients, in ways that is meaningful to the patients.

Upon reflection, four concepts emerged: seeking change, being in limbo/"not quite there," a sense of belonging and faith, and intimacy/solitude. This case demonstrates how art therapy helped clients accept responsibility, acknowledge past wrongdoings, express remorse, seek control and connection, and express their desire to belong.
Introduction Obesity is a chronic condition that can impact the physical, emotional, mental and social elements that encompass a child's life. The objectives of this study were to identify which ...generic and obesity-specific patient-reported outcome (PRO) instruments are used in obesity literature, as well as review their conceptual approach, health and health-related content, ethical content and psychometric properties. Method PubMed, CINAHL, EMBASE and PsycINFO were searched from the inception of each database to May 2012 to identify all studies using multi-dimensional PRO instruments with children who are overweight or obese. The most common generic and all obesity-specific instruments were analyzed according to the study objectives. Results From 4,226 articles identified by our search, 70 articles used 6 generic and 4 obesity-specific PRO instruments. While the most commonly used PRO instrument was the generic PedsQL 4.0 (used in 53 studies), many health domains were found in the obesity-specific instruments that are not measured by the PedsQL 4.0. Summary of the development and psychometric properties of the generic and obesity PROs identified that no one instrument meets all the guideline criteria for instrument development and validation, e.g., only one instrument included qualitative input from children with obesity in the content development phase. Discussion This comprehensive review provides information to aid in selecting multi-dimensional PRO instruments in children with obesity according to various aspects of content as well as psychometric properties. The conceptual analysis shows that the reviewed PRO instruments contain inconsistencies in their conceptual approaches. Also, certain relevant health domains to children and youth with obesity were not included in the most commonly used generic instrument. The obesity-specific instruments require further validation before they can be used in intervention studies.

A 50% ethanol extract of Coscinium fenestratum stem material (AECF) has been found to possess hypotensive action in anaesthetised dogs, rats and guinea pigs in a dose-related pattern. The fall in ...blood pressure was not modified by alpha and beta adrenergic blockers, cholinergic and histaminergic antagonists or by ganglion blocking agents. The effect was more pronounced in spinal-transected animals. AECF non-specifically inhibited the pressor responses to epinephrine, norepinephrine, DMPP and depressor responses to acetylcholine and histamine. AECF failed to exhibit any hypotension when administered via cannula into the lateral cerebral ventricle. Given orally to mice, AECF did not exhibit grossly observable central nervous effects up to doses of 800 mg/kg. The oral LD50 was estimated to be 1200 mg/kg in mice.
