In this article the author focuses on the urban poor in late medieval Zagreb. First, the introduction examines factors that influenced the definition of poverty and briefly overviews primary and ...secondary sources. The wide spectrum of people perceived as poor in the primary sources complies with the model proposed by Michel Mollat through the analysis of terminology of European sources and practices. The central part examines integration and marginalization of the poor. The
problem can be perceived at several levels. First, the poor were mentioned in the Zlatna bula (‘Golden Bull’) of King Bela IV in the part that explains regulations concerning ius testmentaria. Second, the poor are observed through the functioning of charitable donations in testaments but also through charitable donations given by town council. Certain Zagreb paupers were mentioned by their given names. This shows that, while some among the poor were integrated into urban community at the same time they were professional beggars belonging to the marginal part of that community. The fourth level is poverty of the entire community, which was declared in various correspondences between the king and the council of Zagreb. There were several hospitals in the area of Zagre (both civil and bishop’s parts) of which three were general ones and one a leper
house outside of the town. In conclusion, poverty in Zagreb reflects relativity of
the notion of ‘being poor’ and ‘being perceived as poor’ by others.
The article deals with the construction of the narrative of the battle of Krbava Field, where many Croatian noblemen perished in 1493. The accounts of the battle began to spread immediately after the ...fighting had come to an end, giving rise to various versions of the events. The second part of the article is devoted to the rhetoric of the various retellings with which the memory of the calamity was preserved from the sixteenth century to the eighteenth century. The article then examines the circumstances leading to the increase in the political and social importance of the narrative in the nineteenth century and the early twentieth century. The final part of the article focuses on the history of the narrative of the battle within the framework of the various Croatian state formations of the twentieth century.
U radu se obrađuje utjecaj pripadnosti velikaškim družinama na društveni položaj pripadnika srednjeg i nižeg plemstva i njihovih obitelji. Pri tome oni nisu gubili svoj plemićki status niti druge ...vrste plemićkih sloboda koje su inače uživali, što je moglo dovoditi do sukoba s njima nadređenim velikašima. Naglasak je stavljen na utjecaj teritorijalnog faktora kao odlučujućeg za sklapanje klijentelskog odnosa. Ti će problemi biti promatrani na primjerima velikaških obitelji Zagrebačke županije za vladavine Žigmunda Luksemburškog.

Teritorij je izabran jer je riječ o relativno velikoj županiji na rubu ...kraljevstva, na prostoru međusobnog utjecaja ugarskog i hrvatskog prava, običaja i struktura, koja dosad nije bila predmetom monografske obrade. Vrijeme vladavine Žigmunda Luksemburškog odabrano je zbog činjenice da je riječ o jednom od zadnjih europskih viteških vladara srednjovjekovlja, čija vlast na hrvatskom povijesnom prostoru traje pedeset godina. Analiza plemićkog društva Zagrebačke županije usmjerena je na identifikaciju plemića koji su ondje živjeli, prikazivanje njihovog djelovanja, načina života i struktura, metodologijom prozopografije, kvalitativne i kritičke analize, uz korištenje metoda arhonotologije i genealogije. U analizi se isto tako koristi metodologija običajne geografije. Krajnji rezultat donijet će osnovu za kasnija istraživanja plemstva srednjovjekovne Slavonije i Ugarsko-Hrvatskog Kraljevstva.
The main topic of this doctoral thesis is the noble society of the county of Zagreb during the reign of Sigismund of Luxembourg (1387-1437). That territory was chosen because the county in question is not too big and it is situated at the edge of the Kingdom, in the area between the influences of Hungarian and Croatian law, customs and structures, and which, until present, was not the topic of a monograph. The reign of Sigismund of Luxembourg was chosen because it was one of the last chivalrous rulers of the Middle Ages, whose reign in the Croatian historical area lasted for fifty years. The analysis of the noble society of the county of Zagreb focuses on identification of nobles which resided there, depicting their activities, way of life and structures by using the methodology of prosopography, qualitative and critical analysis, combined with the methods of archontology and genealogy. Also, the method of customary geography will be used. The final result will provide a good basis for further research of nobility in medieval Slavonia and Kingdom of Hungary-Croatia.
