In this paper, we introduce an approach for measuring human gait symmetry where the input is a sequence of depth maps of subject walking on a treadmill. Body surface normals are used to describe 3D ...information of the walking subject in each frame. Two different schemes for embedding the temporal factor into a symmetry index are proposed. Experiments on the whole body, as well as the lower limbs, were also considered to assess the usefulness of upper body information in this task. The potential of our method was demonstrated with a dataset of 97,200 depth maps of nine different walking gaits. An ROC analysis for abnormal gait detection gave the best result ( AUC = 0.958 ) compared with other related studies. The experimental results provided by our method confirm the contribution of upper body in gait analysis as well as the reliability of approximating average gait symmetry index without explicitly considering individual gait cycles for asymmetry detection.

Phytochemical investigation of Lindera myrrha rootsgrowing in Vietnam afforded a new eudesmane sesquiterpenoid, myrrhalindenane C (1), along with seven known compounds, ...rel-5-(3S,8S-dihydroxy-1R,5S-dimethyl-7-oxa-6-oxobicyclo3,2,1-oct-8-yl)-3-methyl-2Z,4E-pentadienoic acid (2), 1-O-(4-hydroxy-2,6-dimethoxyphenoxy)-6-O-rel-5-(3S,8S-dihydroxy-1R,5S-dimethyl-7-oxa-6-oxobicyclo3,2,1-oct-8-yl)-3-methyl-2Z,4E-pentadienoyl-β-D-glucopyranose (3), curcumin (4), demethoxycurcumin (5), bisdemethoxycurcumin (6), (1E,6E)-1,7-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,6-heptadiene-3,5-dione (7), and 2',4',4,2''-tetrahydroxy-3'-3''-methylbut-3''-enylchalcone (8). White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV) is the most damaging pathogen in terms of production and economic losses for the shrimp sector world-wide. Estimation of heritability for WSSV resistance was made in ...this study to obtain necessary parameter inputs for broadening the breeding objectives of an ongoing selective breeding programme for Whiteleg shrimp (
) that has focussed exclusively on improving growth performance since 2014. The present study involved a disease challenge test experiment using a total of 15,000 shrimps from 150 full- and half-sib families (100 individuals per family). Survival rates were recorded at six different experimental periods: 1-3 days (S1), 1-5 days (S2), 1-7 days (S3), 1-9 days (S4), 1-12 days (S5), and 1-15 days (S6) and were used as measures of WSSV resistance. There was significant variation in WSSV resistance among families studied. Quantitative-real time PCR (qPCR) analysis showed that the amount of viral titer (viral load) was significantly lower in high than low resistance families. Analyses of heritability were carried out using linear mixed model (LMM) and threshold logistic generalized model (TLGM). Both linear and threshold models used showed that the heritability (h
) for WSSV resistance was moderate in the early infection phases (S1-S4), whilst a low h
value was observed for survival after 12 and 15 days of the challenge test (S5 and S6). The transformed heritabilities for WSSV resistance ranged from 1 to 31% which were somewhat lower than those estimated on the liability scale. Genetic correlations between survival rates measured over six different days post-infection were high and positive (0.82-0.99). The phenotypic correlations ranged from 0.31 ± 0.01 to 0.97 ± 0.01. The genetic correlations between body weights and WSSV resistance were negative. Our results on the heritability and genetic correlations show that improvement of WSSV resistance can be achieved through selective breeding in this population of Whiteleg shrimp.
In online structural health monitoring of the fixed offshore jacket platform, the determination of the time‐dependent degradation of structures due to damages is the most important step in a ...maintenance strategy. This paper presents the application of the Hilbert Huang transform method based on the iEEMD (improved ensemble empirical mode decomposition) algorithm to identify the instantaneous natural frequency degradation due to damages of the fixed offshore structure under the random wave excitation. The iEEMD algorithm is proposed to restrain the mode mixing and used to adaptively process the big response data of the offshore structure during the wave loading with a wide frequency range. The vibration response measurement experiment for the offshore structure was conducted in a wave tank in this study. The identified fundamental natural frequencies by the iEEMD‐based Hilbert Huang method were evaluated and compared with results of the numerical model of the eigenvalue analysis. The main result demonstrates that the instantaneous frequency degradation and nonlinear time‐varying behavior due to the brace damage of the fixed offshore jacket platform can be successfully identified by the iEEMD‐based Hilbert Huang transform technique under a wave load.
This paper reports a development of metallo-phthalocyanime complexes (MPcs) based photodetector. Metal-organic semiconductor-metal structure (MSM)-based photodetectors were developed using β-MPc ...crystals (β-CuPc and β-ZnPc). Dark current reduction accompanied photocurrent enhancement was observed in the β-ZnPc device by comparison to the β-CuPc device. The β-ZnPc photodetector exhibits good photosensitive performance with high responsivity, 11.6 AW-1, and external quantum efficiency1.3 × 104% under ultraviolet illumination. The photocurrent is linear to light intensity under white light illumination. The detector shows an excellent response speed through fast rise and decay time (τr = 0.142 s and τd = 0.186 s).
