Les espèces fourragères associées par les éleveurs sont choisies pour leur complémentarité de fonctions et leur capacité d'adaptation, permettant ainsi aux mélanges de répondre à la diversité des ...milieux et des besoins d'alimentation des troupeaux. Des résultats récents confirment et précisent ces aspects.L'intérêt des prairies multi-espèces pour la production (matière sèche et protéines) et sa régularité interannuelle (rusticité), la digestibilité est confirmé par les essais présentés, conduits en fauche et en pâture, à différents niveaux d'intrants. Le maintien d'un couvert productif à long terme passe par une dose appropriée de légumineuses au semis, des variétés complémentaires (graminées et légumineuses, leur nombre étant moins important ; pérennité), l'adéquation entre espèces et rythme de coupe, une fertilisation azotée compatible avec la pérennité des légumineuses. Les connaissances sur le fonctionnement de ces couverts complexes méritent d'être approfondies mais des outils innovants sont d'ores et déjà disponibles pour faciliter le choix des espèces à associer pour construire des systèmes fourragers performants.
Livestock farmers chose combinations of forage species based on the trait complementarity and species ability to adjust to environmental changes; the types of plant species included can therefore allow these communities to respond to diverse local conditions and the nutritive needs of livestock. Recent research has shed some light on these issues. Multi-species grasslands (whether for grazing or hay production) that receive different levels of inputs are of interest because of their yields (i.e. of dry matter and proteins) -overall and between years- and the digestibility of the forage they produce. Maintaining yields requires sowing appropriate quantities of legumes; including complementary varieties and balancing species within the community, and employing a cutting frequency and levels of nitrogen fertilizers that allow legumes to persist over the long term. Although we need to expand our knowledge of these complex crop communities, we now have access to innovative tools that will permit us to choose the right species when seeking to create efficient forage systems.

Le troisième numéro de la revue "À l’épreuve" souhaite interroger la complexité de la notion de « genre » sans se limiter aux seuls aspects poétiques de la question : quels sont les traits ...définitoires d’un genre ? Les modèles génériques élaborés par la théorie sont-ils opératoires lorsque nous les confrontons à la diversité foisonnante des produits culturels ? S’il s’agit là de deux questionnements certes incontournables sur la notion, la formulation de la thématique du numéro invite également à accorder une importance particulière aux implications idéologiques et axiologiques du geste d’étiquetage générique. Car l’association d’un objet culturel et d’un genre ne vise pas toujours à une fin exclusivement descriptive mais dissimule souvent une intention prescriptive. Classifier revient parfois non simplement à départager mais également à établir une hiérarchie entre les « grands » et les « petits » genres. Ainsi comme le rappelait Pierre Bourdieu tout effort de taxinomie n’est jamais totalement étranger à une certaine violence symbolique : "Mettre des formes, c’est donner à une action ou à un discours la forme qui est reconnue comme convenable, légitime, approuvée, c’est-à-dire une forme telle que l’on peut produire publiquement, à la face de tous, une volonté ou une pratique qui, présentée autrement, serait inacceptable". Les articles réunis dans ce numéro proposent chacun un éclairage différent sur l’ensemble de ces enjeux formels et idéologiques de la notion dans des domaines variés.

important issue which concerns the propagation of cosmic rays of all energies
in a variety of ...astrophysical environments, such as the interplanetary,
interstellar and even extra-galactic media, as well as the efficiency of Fermi
acceleration processes. We have performed detailed numerical experiments using
Monte-Carlo simulations of particle propagation in stochastic magnetic fields
in order to measure the parallel and transverse spatial diffusion coefficients
and the pitch angle scattering time as a function of rigidity and strength of
the turbulent magnetic component. We confirm the extrapolation to high
turbulence levels of the scaling predicted by the quasi-linear approximation
for the scattering frequency and parallel diffusion coefficient at low
rigidity. We show that the widely used Bohm diffusion coefficient does not
provide a satisfactory approximation to diffusion even in the extreme case
where the mean field vanishes. We find that diffusion also takes place for
particles with Larmor radii larger than the coherence length of the turbulence.
We argue that transverse diffusion is much more effective than predicted by the
quasi-linear approximation, and appears compatible with chaotic magnetic
diffusion of the field lines. We provide numerical estimates of the Kolmogorov
length and magnetic line diffusion coefficient as a function of the level of
turbulence. Finally we comment on applications of our results to astrophysical
turbulence and the acceleration of high energy cosmic rays in supernovae
remnants, in super-bubbles, and in jets and hot spots of powerful
radio-galaxies.
The pacific oyster Crassostrea gigas was experimentally exposed to the neurotoxic Alexandrium catenella and a non-producer of PSTs, Alexandrium tamarense (control algae), at concentrations ...corresponding to those observed during the blooming period. At fixed time intervals, from 0 to 48 h, we determined the clearance rate, the total filtered cells, the composition of the fecal ribbons, the profile of the PSP toxins and the variation of the expression of two α-amylase and triacylglecerol lipase precursor (TLP) genes through semi-quantitative RT-PCR. The results showed a significant decrease of the clearance rate of C. gigas fed with both Alexandrium species. However, from 29 to 48 h, the clearance rate and cell filtration activity increased only in oysters fed with A. tamarense. The toxin concentrations in the digestive gland rose above the sanitary threshold in less than 48 h of exposure and GTX6, a compound absent in A. catenella cells, accumulated. The α-amylase B gene expression level increased significantly in the time interval from 6 to 48 h in the digestive gland of oysters fed with A. tamarense, whereas the TLP gene transcript was significantly up-regulated in the digestive gland of oysters fed with the neurotoxic A. catenella. All together, these results suggest that the digestion capacity could be affected by PSP toxins.

An optimal management of ...such pastures requires a good knowledge of their feeding value. The feeding value of a diversified pasture depends in the first place on the composition of the mixture of species and on the species' feeding value. In grass-legume associations, the proportion of legumes is often determinant for the voluntary intake and the nitrogen value of the herbage. In permanent pastures, the environmental conditions and the type of management determine the botanical composition (especially the types and proportions of grasses with a capture or a conservation strategy, and those of legumes); they thus determine, in a large measure, the feeding value. The value of the voluntary grasses and of the dicotyledons other than the legumes is little known, nor are the interactions among plants on the digestion and intake by the animals. At the scales of the grazing season and of the forage system, the advantage of diversified pastures lies in their greater flexibility of management.
